12 weeks pregnant - Taking Heparin (Dalteparin) and 150mg Aspirin, anyone else?

Hi all,

I've had 2 MMC's previously and am currently just over 12 weeks pregnant - this is the furthest I've ever got with a pregnancy.

After my second MMC I found out I have Factor V Leiden, so when I discovered I was pregnant this time I started taking 75mg Aspirin daily. From around 5 or 6 weeks I was prescribed Dalteparin and told by my GP to stop taking the Aspirin.

I've just had my 12 week scan today and been seen by a consultant who has prescribed me 150mg Aspirin daily - to take along side the Dalteparin.

This seems like a lot to me so I wondered if anyone else was on the same?

X

Hi, I was also taking 75mg aspirin and heparin but my doctor at nhs changed it to deltaparin and increased aspirin to 150mg. I also had missed miscarriages before.

Grognonne · 12/02/2022 08:53

Yes, I did this, also had many miscarriages. Took 150mg aspirin and daily heparin injections. Also progesterone pessaries for the first couple of months and a short course of strong antibiotics (can remember which week it was, but quite early, maybe 10wks?).

Teasha · 12/02/2022 09:19

Hi Grognonne, did you investigate your previous miscarriages?

Grognonne · 12/02/2022 09:29

Yes, the trust where I live were very good and did lots of investigations.

Teasha · 12/02/2022 09:35

I also did investigation through a private clinic and they found multiple blood clotting disorders such as factor v leiden, pai-1 and mthfr mutation. I was curious to know because I am following similar plan that you have mentioned in this pregnancy.

Grognonne · 12/02/2022 09:43

They found a few things, mine was done through my local hospital. Trouble is nobody can say if these things are the cause or even affect miscarriages. Plenty of people have clotting disorders and don’t even know and carry a healthy baby with no intervention. It is a very difficult time, especially after losses, I couldn’t really get into my pregnancy until 28 weeks! Good luck!

Teasha · 12/02/2022 09:50

I am very sorry about your losses. I can relate to it. I wish you get this happiness soon.

Cakecakecheese · 12/02/2022 09:55

I'm currently taking 150mg of aspirin.

Grognonne · 12/02/2022 14:09

Thanks Teasha, sorry, I probably wasn’t clear, but I have a 10 month old baby now! I just meant it was hard in the pregnancy as I didn’t tell anyone until 20wk and didn’t feel properly pregnant until about 28 when it becomes viable.

FactyFrances · 12/02/2022 14:11

Aspirin & blood thinners, such as heparin, work in different ways to prevent clotting so the combination isn't overkill

Teasha · 12/02/2022 14:11

I am sorry Grognonne for misunderstanding. I am so happy after knowing that you have your sunshine now. It raised my hope also. 😊

WildflowerPetals · 13/02/2022 17:33

@Grognonne Thanks for your reply, that's so lovely to hear you have a 10 month old now!

@FactyFrances That's interesting and makes sense as to why I'd be prescribed both, thanks 😊

@Teasha Sorry to hear of your losses, I hope your pregnancy goes well this time x

My consultant has me on both (I’m 24 weeks) however they’ve just referred me to a haematologist to check if I need to stay on the injections or not. I don’t think it can do any damage to stay on both though, although heparin can deplete your calcium so need to ensure you’re getting enough.

WildflowerPetals · 14/02/2022 08:09

@JAR1981 I'm supposed to be having a joint consultation with an obstetrician and haematologist, I haven't got my appt date yet though. I didn't know that about the calcium, I'm seeing my midwife this week so I'll see if she can give any advice. Thanks x

Hi wildflowerpetals, How is your pregnancy going?

WildflowerPetals · 12/03/2022 18:30

Hi @Teasha, it's going well thank you - I'm 19 weeks today 😊 How's your pregnancy going?

Glad to know that. I am 16 weeks and going well.

Teasha · 22/04/2022 12:53

Hi everyone, I hope your pregnancy journeys going well. I had my Anomaly scan this week and baby is measuring okay but in the doppler scan doctor find the blood resistance and a notch. Got worried now.
