Waters broke at 28 weeks

I'm new to the board, so hello!

My baby (2nd, I have a little boy who's 4 at the end of Feb) is due on 7 March. My waters went 2 weeks ago today. I've been in hospital since then (apart from about 36 hours over Christmas Day) being monitored and waiting for possible labour or infection. Thankfully neither has happened and today I hit the 30 week mark. Had the steroid injections for baby's lungs straightaway but my consultant said today that having got this far, I'd probably just carry on as I am for a few more weeks and quite possibly to full-term, which is really good news. He wants me to go home soon and just come for regular monitoring, which I feel a little anxious about but put that down to being a bit institutionalised already! I'm still leaking fluid but the baby seems happy enough - I'm going to ask to stay in until after my next scan on Sun or Mon morning. This will check fluid levels (presume still low as tho body makes more all the time, it's finding its way out) and also baby growth.

I'm feeling pretty confident that all will be well and hoping for a normal delivery of a not very (if at all) early baby. I wondered if anyone else had had this happen?

Hi Kirst Sorry to read your post. No experience of your situation but hope every thing goes well.

Hi- there was a woman on "This Morning" today (it doesn't take long to get sucked into the daytime tv lark, was hoping for a few more weeks at work before brain turned to mush!) who discovered her waters had broken at her 12 week scan. Outlook was pretty grim by the sounds of it but her 10 month old son (born around 28 weeks I think) looked very healthy! Most reassuring, wonderful how these stories come along just when you need them.

I hit the 31 week mark tomorrow - went to see my GP for a sick note today and left feeling pretty hopeful of a proper labour and delivery (I'd rather avoid a c-section although accept it may be required).

I don't have any advice, but just wanted to wish you well.

not had my waters break early, but have had 4 prem. babies, DS1 was 35 weeks, DD1 was 31 weeks and DD2 and DS2 were both 33 weeks. IF your baby makes a early appearance now, all should be ok. will reply more when i am not feeding DS2.

come over to the march ante natal board, one of our mums has just had her twin girls at just shy of 30 weeks (all fine).

A friend of mine lost of most of her waters at 30 weeks and then went on to deliver at full term. It's good that you are being well looked after by the hospital and I hope your little one hangs in there for a bit longer.

My waters broke at 30 weeks during my last pregnancy and i managed not to go in to labour for 10 days. I had to stay in hospital the whole time though to be monitered which was a pain. My daughter was born at 32+2 4lb8oz in scbu for a month but is 3 tomorrow and truly perfectly wonderfull !

Hi - my waters went at 26 weeks but no one believed me until I went in demanding attention some 2 weeks later!!

I had about a week in hospital (had the steroid jabs) - but when it was obvious that I wasn't going into labour I asked to be discharged, as apparently the most important thing was to protect against infection...and hospital can be the worst place for catching those!

I was put on day care - which meant going in every 3 days for monitoring....and they saw my broken waters were a hind water leak, so it was occasionally replenishing itself. I had to take anti-biotics and take my temperature 3 times a day with the promise that I'd go in immediately if it rose as this was the first sign of infection.

I managed until 34 wks exactly - when a nurse spotted infection signs I'd not noticed. Was induced - tried for a natural birth (they were fab - no push for CS)but things nose-dived 8 hours later and had emergency CS. DD was fine - no problems - just teeny - skinny little legs and bum! Turned out my placenta was infected - and to quote DP "looked like mashed jelly"....

I thought lost waters meant it was all over - but I met several women who went full term and 34 weeks was no problem at all.
Good luck - make sure they keep an eye on you - and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy

Thanks - it's really good to know I'm not alone! More checks today and all still well. I've found myslef getting annoyed at the leakage over the last couple of days (I can only compare it to feeling like I'm peeing my pants, it feels like there's more coming out than there really is to be fair) but am now reminding myself that the longer it continues the better!

hi Krist, I have no personal experience of this, but a friend of fine gave birth to her baby at 23 weeks and he is 5 years olsd now and perfectly healthy.

My waters went at 29weeks and I held on 3 days until DD was born (via emergency C-section) weighing 3lb 2oz. She was in SCBU for 6 weeks and turns 3 next month. Take care of yourself and your little one. Good luck! xx
