How would you know if you were having twins?

Apart from the scan I mean.

This isn't a totally serious question, it's just that I'm only 5 weeks today, and I have a noticable bump that wasn't there 3 weeks ago! Well, noticable to me. Of course, I could just be fat.

Anyway, all know-how appreciated!

I have a friend who's pregnant with twins, and from about 7 weeks she felt very pregnant - she didn't have a noticable bump but she did notice her uterus felt very large already. She also had severe morning sickness, but then so did I and I only had one baby.

Is there a history of twins in your family?

Horrendously sick. Well I was, but then so was my friend but she had a single baby.

And someone else I know with twins became very large very quickly (I didn't) but wasn't sick at all....

A scan is the only way to confirm for sure.

is it your 2nd or 3rd?

PennyBenjamin · 28/12/2007 12:39

No, first baby. My brother has triplets (not IVF), but I think that would come from his wife?

No major morning sickness yet, but just a constant low-level nausea.

Anyway, I'm sure it's not, just having fun obsessing in the quiet post-Christmas period!

Thanks to everyone for replying.

If this is your first baby, you might just be more aware of the differences in your body. If you are very slim, you might notice a bump earlier than someone who is, er, a bit fatter.

And, um, how much have you scoffed over Christmas?

Also, if it's twins, two babies will come out at the end.

At the dating scan. No other way honey.

Have done both, singleton pregnancy and twin pregnancy. Didn't carry differently for any of them.

I've met loads of pg women through work, in 6 yrs only 1 expecting twins didn't spend the vast majority of her time puking her guts up early/mid pregnancy. Obviously lots of people get hyperemesis without twins, but wouldn't get too psyched up unless the morning sickness really gets you- not just feeling sick all the time, gipping, etc, but really puking- sorry if thats TMI!
Good luck with your pregnancy,

Thanks to everyone for the advice - I'm sure it's not twins, I think the point made about just being more aware of my body is spot on. Was fun to obsess for a few days though!
