everyone speaks of a metal taste as a symptom of pregnancy. Has anyone ever had a sweet taste, that doesnt seem to go away? Im not eating loads of sweet things although over christmas I have indulged a little. Now 22 wks and due for glucose tolerance test at 28 weeks. Have had this sweet taste for probably last month. Worried that it might be a symptom of Gestational diabetes or something. Im pregnant with my third, worried as my second was 10lb 14oz!

No, I had it for ages as well and no one knew what I was talking about. Metallic I'd heard of but this was definitely a horrible sweet taste not metallic at all.

I also googled GD when it was bothering me but couldn't come up with anything to link the two together. Had GTT at 28 weeks and it was fine. Being monitored for GD this week (38 weeks) because bubs has a bit of a beer gut and all my blood sugar measurements are coming back normal so it doesn't seem to be linked at all.

I wouldn't worry about it on its own but I know exactly what you're talking about and it's horrible.

I have it too! drives me mad, and sometimes makes me a little sick feeling. Have tried to google it, but not had much luck!

Thanks sarahjct and missjennipenni. Im so glad to have found some people who know what Im talking about. i cant find anything about it anywhere. sometimes i think its linked to me having had something sweet but it seems to be there all the time. Good luck with the test this week sarah jct - you're almost there - do you know whether you're having a boy or a girl?. I have two boys and Im wondering if if it this taste might be a girl thing?! I didnt find out the sex at the last scan.

How many weeks are you miss jennipenni?

I'm 13 weeks, and my mouth tastes sweet.

Could be the quality street though...

I have diabetes and sometimes get a sweet taste in my mouth when my blood sugars are higher than normal but it nevers lasts once my blood sugars come down. The taste is usually accompanied by a dreadful thirst that is never quenched at the time. If you don't have the unquenchable thirst then I would doubt that it would be GD.

Thanks for your message daisy nova. I dont have an unquenchable thirst but the more I read I worry about the fact that my second born was so huge!! Anyway, not long to my GT test and then I'll know for sure.

Yes get checked for gestational diabetes, it's a very simple painless test you just take a urine sample to the surgery or chemists.

Hi Tab. I'm having a girl. My short term answer was to eat chocolate to cover up the taste (LOL, only half joking! ) and they do say that girls give you a sweet tooth...

missjennipenni · 30/12/2007 20:36

Im almost 22 weeks, having a boy (so there goes the girl theory lol)

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 30/12/2007 20:44

i find that if i eat sweet things a yukky sweet taste lingers for hours.i find myself teeth cleaning many times a day!

Lucy7777 · 29/08/2018 21:40

I also have this unbareable sweet taste in my mouth and I am early stages, 9 weeks pregnant. My mum said she had the same when she was expecting a boy... Lets see!!
