Anyone been prescribed Aspirin for pregnancy?

Hi ladies,
I'm 10+5 and been prescribed Aspirin because I had high blood pressure in my last pregnancy. However, it says on the leaflet not to take in last 3 months of pregnancy and when breastfeeding.

On the label for my dosage, it says I need to take it right up to 40 weeks.

I'm breastfeeding my 22 month old, although I don't have hardly any milk left and never hear him actually drinking it. The midwife knows this.

Shall I just trust her judgement or ring her to check?

Has anyone else ever had to take Aspirin in pregnancy?

I've been taking aspirin since my IVF transfer. My midwife said to continue it until 36 weeks.

I took it from ivf transfer until a short time before my c section.

Yes I took it. Aspirin is a blood thinner and in pregnancy you are at higher risk of blood clots forming as you produce more blood to support baby. With high blood pressure the risk is slightly elevated. So taking aspirin will keep your blood thin and help prevent complications, and may reduce your blood pressure too.

Usually you stop aspirin shortly before birth, just in the event of a bleed during birth as your blood is thinner you would bleed more. But, the risk of that versus the risk of your blood pressure have to be weighed up against each other. They will reassess your stats nearer the time.l and advise you whether to stop or not.

Can't comment on breastfeeding but that is purely due to passing to the child which is likely minimal. Ask your midwife though if you're not sure.

Yes, until 5 months in if I remember

I took it from the moment I got a BFP, and will be up until I go into labour.

I was still once a day breastfeeding my 22 mo at the time, but soon gave up. Milk was already starting to dry up by that point, but pregnancy completely finished it off and it was far too uncomfortable to even continue.

I'm taking it, from 12 weeks until 36 weeks. It's low dose so safe in pregnancy x

Pizzaandsushi · 21/01/2022 06:26

Yes I’m on daily aspirin for my preeclampsia risk. Started taking it at 12 weeks and was initially told until 36 weeks but the guidance has now changed to take it until birth which I will do. I confirmed with two different midwives about the change too, so sounds like yours might be the same.

Poppop4 · 21/01/2022 06:30

Yes I’m sure I took it until 36 weeks x

WhatNoRaisins · 21/01/2022 06:33

I had it for previous preeclampsia. I was advised to get someone else to buy for me when I was showing.

BDavis · 21/01/2022 06:36

@dream109 I was the same as @Pizzaandsushi - 150mg dose daily and was told to continue until I went into labour. I double checked because I knew others that had been told to stop at 36 weeks but I was told the guidelines had now changed.
I ended up being induced so was told not to take it the night before induction but was fine up until then 😊

Thanks so much everyone, I really appreciate your experiences. I'm almost dried up with breastfeeding and want to stop soon anyway (he uses it to sleep) so I'll check with the midwife about that part and start taking it.
