Pelvic pain after midwife exam

Hi, just wondering if this is a common experience and what to do about the discomfort...

I was at a midwife appointment today (36 weeks) and the midwife was measuring fundal height (which I've had done at a fair few appointments now, with no issues). She poked really quite hard at the pubis symphysis area and it caused a sharp pain, which I've not had before. When I mentioned it had been uncomfortable, she just said it was normal to have to press firmly. Afterwards, it's been sore for a few hours now - initially a sharp pain which it was hard to move through, and now a dull aching pain at rest with sharper discomfort if I move too quickly. Is this usual after midwife exams at this stage? It's never been an issue before today.

Mine never were very hard...maybe she's pressed too firmly on a muscle?
