I was advised to use the pessary that you insert one a night for 3 nights - more effective as you get a bigger dose by the end of the treatment and will prevent it returning so easily and better in pregnancy. The pharmacist also advised to only insert it 2/3 of the way up. HTH!

to be honest I THINK the GP and pharmacist said no to the once pessary. Certianly the oral is a no no.

You can definately use the pessary (infact its what the GP would prescribe)
But make sure you dont use the applicator to insert it

ALomonderfulLife · 28/12/2007 08:41

I was told I had to use the pessary. It is the once tablet you are not allowed.

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 28/12/2007 08:44

I used the pessary and applicator during pregnancy. It was prescried to be by a doctor so I assumed it was safe. It was fine anyway.

AussieSim · 28/12/2007 08:46

I just hit the 'inner health' tablets hard when I feel symptoms coming on and otherwise take one now and then when I can remember and I find that works better than the cream or the pessary. I am 19weeks.

Pessaries are fine, I have used so many this pregnancy but do not use the applicator.

itcameuponamidnightclayre · 28/12/2007 08:53

i got the pessary from the hospital thru both pg and was told to use the applicater, i would go see the dr to get it, saves you a fortune

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 28/12/2007 08:54

I'm not sure what is supposed to be the problem with the applicator? As long as you use it carefully?

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 28/12/2007 08:55

The thing is, you have to make sure the pessary is high enough up, otherwise I would have thoough it may be less effective?

smartiejake · 28/12/2007 09:19

I had thrush terribly during my second pg. The dr actually prescribed a 2 week course of pessaries but not sure if they were the same strength as the over the counter ones. I would ask dr if I were you. Cheaper for one thing as free prescritions.

babylove21 · 28/12/2007 22:55

well almost 24 hrs since i administered the pessary. Ohhhhh relief .
Have steered clear of sugary foods, and i am wondering if it was the indulgence of xmas day foods and the 2 glasses of wine i had .
It's a pity i had to pay 8.10 for it but i couldnt have spent another night without treatment and my drs are terrible at giving out those appts.
Thanks everyone, i am really glad i joined mumsnet now
