hi, wondering if anyone can help or give advice!
i had a sweep this morning at around 10/10.30 am. started to have contractions at around 11.30, have lost part or most of mucus plug. contractions have been every 4mins or so for about 30 seconds. had an internal exam to show i am still only 1cm dilated at around 4. contractions are still there and strong, has anyone had anything similar? will i go into active labour? will the contractions stop? anything will help, i'm in so much pain and been sent home.
TIA

I'm sure you've tried this already but drink some Raspberry Leaf Tea, take some paracetamol and have a bath.

My bet is though that things will progress much more tonight.

How exciting, do you know what sex the baby is?

cfarrugia · 19/01/2022 18:24

@BunnyRuddington fingers crossed i progress tonight! as would seem a shame to not go into full labour after being in pain and contracting for this long. gender is unknown!! will keep you posted x

I had this and dd was born at 6.30am the next day. I started light contractions around 11pm day of sweep, went to hospital at 2am and was 4cm dilated. Best of luck

BunnyRuddington · 19/01/2022 18:31

Yes definitely keep us updated. I love a good birth thread! Smile

cfarrugia · 19/01/2022 18:32

@Merriwicks seen as i'm still contracting that's a good sign isn't it? if contracts continue i will be going back in tonight, is there any other pain relief i can take at home? i have a hot water bottle and running a new bath now x

Contractions are definitely a good sign!

cfarrugia · 19/01/2022 18:42

@BunnyRuddington feel abit disheartened as midwife's thought that sweep could of just agitated cervix and that contractions might stop so hoping that isn't the case! :(

I think it is a good sign they are still going. Do you have a ball, get bouncing! That will keep head down and pressure on cervix. Ring them and ask about what pain relief you can have

confuseddotcom1234 · 19/01/2022 18:49

Same happened to me. Sweep in the morning and went into full labour baby born the following afternoon. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

cfarrugia · 19/01/2022 19:18

@Merriwicks didn't sleep much last night so exhausted already! bath eases pain going to see how i get on tonight, and if i can try get some sleep but seems impossible right now.

@confuseddotcom1234 hopefully i go the same way! :D

Not after a sweep but I had contractions every 5 minutes lasting 30-45 seconds for a long time, hospital said I was in labour but it would just take a while (which it did to get to 5cm) but once my waters broke at 5cm, DS was born 1.35 hours later! Good luck 🤞

BunnyRuddington · 19/01/2022 19:41

Oh and my usual advice is don't wait until the waters break before you go in. DD was born in hers..

Merriwicks · 19/01/2022 19:54

Like bunny said, I've never had water's for some unknown reason. When I went in, they said waters intact and rolled me to next room and examined again and waters gone, but absolutely no drop between both rooms

cfarrugia · 20/01/2022 01:42

hi! been back in, i am currently 2/3 cm dilated :( come back home with some codeine, if still contracting in the morning will be going back in at around 6.

Been thinking of you op. Any updates?

BunnyRuddington · 20/01/2022 21:20

Hadn't seen your update this morning. Hope everything is progressing nicely for you Thanks

cfarrugia · 21/01/2022 01:32

@BunnyRuddington @Merriwicks Thankyou both for messaging! Baby girl joined us today at 16:16pm on her due date! The sweep really did work magic! it was a long start to active labour - nearly 24 hours but once there was very quick!
Thankyou again :) I'm over the moon
