How many 0-3 clothes do I need?

I've done getting newborn clothes because in all likelihood baby will just wear sleepsuits all the time at first so I've gone for just those in newborn.

How many sleepsuits will I need in 0-3 and how many daytime outfits?

I've got 2 other kids so you'd think I'd remember this stuff but I don't 😂 I really don't want to go overboard like I did the last 2 times so I'd like to just get what we need. Taking into account poo explosions and the possibility of having a refluxy baby like last time.

And will I need a coat or pramsuit for an April baby? My other two were born in summer and winter so spring is a new territory for me 😅

Thanks.

My daughter had awful reflux and I found 15 sleep suits enough. One day we went through 12 alone 😬.

I'd get a pram suit for April.

@chanel05 my youngest had awful reflux too, I was constantly changing her and me because she threw up so much.
I've only got about 8 sleepsuits at the moment so definitely need more, sods law would have it I gave away all of our little baby stuff right before finding out I was pregnant.

Thanks, I'll have a look for a pramsuit.

I've got 12 sleepsuits, 12 vests and about 2 outfits - he'll basically live in sleepsuits.

If it turns out I have a particularly sicky baby and that's not enough, I'll just nip to tesco (or get husband to go!) and get some more.

I’d say it really varies person to person.

Do you mind washing daily? Do you have a tumble dryer? Winter/summer baby? Other kids/family commitments etc?

Given your other child was refluxy I would say definitely air on the side of caution and go a little overboard. Additionally you don’t want to be spending any moment the baby is asleep constantly hanging out washing.

I’d say 20 sleepsuits? We used to go through maybe 4-6/ in a 24 hour period so that could keep you going for a few days.

As for outfits, again entirely dependent on your circumstances. Do you go out a lot? I know a mum who’s a really big church goer and she always likes the children (including baby) to look nice, it works for her and I know a few more who simply prefer the kids in leggings and tops rather than sleep suits - whatever works for you!

By the time mine were out of the baby baby phase so maybe a month I found leggings and a top a lot more practical, that way I only had to strip half of them at a time.

So I’d say maybe 4 pairs of bottoms and four tops and see how you get on? Again that could save you a couple of days washing.

Maybe one or two ‘nice’ outfits for a nice picture of them or if you get invited somewhere/go on a day out?

With my eldest I bought an absolutely beautiful two piece dress and bloomers that was from trotters (a proper wanky posh kids brand) on eBay. It should have been about £60 but I got it for a tenner and to be fair she wore it quite a few times and I love looking back on the pictures.

I also cannot agree with pramsuit enough! I would again recommend a spare!

Bodysuits I’d match the sleepsuits so again I’d say twenty.

Given that he’s due April I would also say keep his wardrobe somewhat wintery! My youngest is a spring baby and I didn’t think I’d need lots of warm things but how wrong was I? Definitely a nice few cardigans and a thick hat! Again, rather have it and not need it then not have it!

14 plus 2 in the changing bag.

10-15 sleepsuits plus vests, a few outfits. No pramsuit needed for April
But I’d get a padded cotton jacket and a blanket

I would invest in more bibs as they can be used right up to weaning for reflux babies.

We bought 0-1 month probably 10 sleepsuits and 10 vests, baby is now 5 weeks old and these have lasted really well. Just about to move into 0-3 and we bought around 12 sleepsuits and 12 vests plus a few outfits and he will be in this size much longer.

I think get about 15 or so babygrows but make sure they're from different shops so some will fit at 1mth and some at 3mth. You can then use the bigger ones in emergencies if your baby does turn out to be refluxy at the start.

April is such dodgy time! I bought pram suits etc then we had the 2020 heatwave and I was constantly monitoring him overheating! That was late April Grin

I would get one but just a cheapy just incase, then if it is cold you can order a nicer one.

@Lafoosa in the UK we are more likely to get a white Easter than Christmas so you probably do want some cold weather stuff. But you have no idea what size your baby will be or how fast they will grow so don't worry too much just yet! I've found it works really well for me to buy a bundle of clothes in each size on Facebook marketplace as a "starter pack" for not much money and then add to it with a few new things I really like. You can always grab bits from the supermarket or do next day delivery if you need to as well. My baby only wore 0-3m for about 3 weeks so I really didn't need that much stuff and everyone buys them clothes at that age. I was giving stuff away he'd never even worn. He's now 9 months, 99.8th centile and wearing 18-24 month clothes even though he was only 7lb14oz when he was born. His little friend born the same week is still in 3-6 month stuff. You just don't know!
