sex in the weeks before elective c-section

Hi all,

My elective c-section is booked for the 14th of February. I know sex doesn't usually trigger labour but is still used to try to induce it.

My question is did anyone either avoid sex after a certain week of pregnancy or can you continue on until the very end. I really don't want to accidentally trigger labour if I can avoid doing so.

Well semen can trigger labour apparently so if you really can't have / don't want a vaginal birth then avoid. I'm 37 weeks and I'm absolutely shocked that anyone wants or is capable of sex at this point. I am like a beached whale and hideously unsexy right now. Jealous of those who want and can have sex.

It varies, thingymaboob. The excess hormones in pregnancy make many women wildly horny, and the extra blood flow and enlarged uterus make orgasms more intense.
DH and I were having a final passionate weekend before DD1 was due the next week, and ended up rupturing my membranes and starting labour there and then!
Also, not every woman becomes a “beached whale” - I was 8 and a half stone pre pregnancy, 10 stone at term, and 8 stone 5 five days after delivering an 8lb baby. There’s no need to eat many extra calories, the “eating for two” is a myth.

@Babdoc don’t be ridiculous.

That’s not the only reason why women can feel like a beached whale and not very sexy at term, is it?

JustWonderingIfYou · 19/01/2022 10:16

Its the hormones in sperms that are supposed to induce Labour so either use a condom or have him pull out and you'll be fine.

@Babdoc i put on less than you in my last pregnancy and still felt like a beached whale. I'm short so at full term was incredibly cumbersome with so much around my middle. Its not just about weight gain.

WOW... judgey much?
thingymaboob · 19/01/2022 10:20

@Babdoc I have only put on 9lb in pregnancy in total. Baby currently estimated at 7lb so will be lighter than pre pregnancy weight after deliver. I am a beached whale because I have a condition called polyhydraminios (excess amniotic fluid).

falalalalalalablahblah · 19/01/2022 10:22

@Babdoc I put 3 stone on. Loved every single extra calorie. Well done for being so thin though (everyone is clapping for you yay)

THNG5 · 19/01/2022 10:25

Even if you're due an elective c section, you can still have a c section if you go into labour. I was due a section with my fourth as I'd had 2 previous sections. My waters broke at 36+6. I still had a c section.

😂 I know right? Thanks
@Babdoc
for the advice "eating for 2 is a myth". I never knew. Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone was a disciplined and perfect at you?

thingymaboob · 19/01/2022 10:26

Sorry for all the typos

DH and I had sex up to our c-section date and in the end, I did go into labour a day before the scheduled date. Hard to know whether it was due to the sex, or what I ate, or generally being active. In my previous pregnancy I went into labour at a similar gestation, so I think it's simply the fact that my babies tend to arrive slightly early. I still had a c-section but it was a bit less planned (and an evening procedure rather than first thing in the morning).

pradavilla · 19/01/2022 10:36

No I didn't. I just mainly avoided it all together 😂 because it was the last thing on my mind.

Although I did have sex when I was overdue and apparently very favourable in terms of my cervix etc. had a long walk, spicy food, pineapple and sex. It made no difference, I was induced and she was forcibly removed by emcs.

I think it only works or is a coincidence if ur about to go anyway.

Rno3gfr · 19/01/2022 10:40

@Babdoc Whatever. I was 7 at 4lb at the start of my pregnancy and gained 3.5 stone by the end. I was absolutely starving the whole time, I’ve never had a big appetite but I clearly needed to eat more and I ate a lot. Delivered a healthy 8 lb 10 oz baby. Yes, you don’t ‘need to to eat for two but sometimes eating intuitively helps get your body what it needs. Every pregnant woman looks like a beach whale because they have a baby wedged in their abdomen.
