Scanxiety - what are my chances?

Hey Everyone,

Looking for a hand hold I think... got a scan tonight 🙈

I've had like 8 scans so far and I'm 13+2 today. My last scan was at 11+5 and all ok. I'm just so so scared something has gone. I've had decreased ewcm and discharge (to almost not there) for the last week, and whilst I haven't had many symptoms... I don't feel tired or hungry anymore. Spent the whole night awake worrying and imagining them telling me there's no heartbeat.

Can anyone offer some guidance on how to get through today? How big is my chance of no heartbeat at this stage? There's so many horrid stories out there which I've unfortunately googled. Scan isn't until 7.45pm 😕 xx

I think if you look into the statistics (there is a website for this) you will see the chance of this happening now is very low. I understand your anxiety though. Try to keep busy today and focus on the positives. 12 weeks is normally the time where an extremely high percentage of women go on to have a healthy baby, and your previous scan was almost at 12 weeks!

Pamparam · 18/01/2022 09:24

There is a chart out there that gives you the chances of miscarriage at every stage.

datayze.com/miscarriage-chart

Says 1.2% at this stage. I mean this very kindly but 8 scans and such high anxiety, it is probably worth mentioning how anxious you are to your midwife for some extra support. Good luck and I’m positive all will be fine!

Rachae · 18/01/2022 09:41

Thanks @Sleepyquest hopefully I'm in that high percentage!

@Pamparam Thanks for your response and for the chart :-) Oh absolutely, they're aware and I'm also seeing a therapist. Nothing seems to work though to be honest - sometimes feels more comforting just to talk to women in similar positions.

xx

I was like this op and I started to feel better at the 20 week mark.
Once you start feeling kicks, it changes the game.

But just wanted to say I've been there, I had no symptoms at the stage your at. I felt completely normal.

Flowerbug1994 · 18/01/2022 09:54

Hi just wanted to let you know all my symptoms stopped completely at 10 weeks I’ve felt completely normal for the last 10 weeks (I’m now 19+4) but I do understand the scam anxiety am petrified for my 20 week scan ok Friday with no reason at all to be. I just want time to fast forward to June and go have him here xx

JAR1981 · 18/01/2022 09:59

Good luck @Rachae for tonight. As others have said you have a 99% chance things will be good tonight. Try keep busy today, maybe do some meditation for pregnancy or get outside for a walk in the sunshine.
I’ve been very anxious so know how you feel, but now 20 weeks. Take things a day at a time and as @BlueSky8 said, once you start to feel movement it definitely provides some reassurance. Oh and speaking from experience, if having further scans try book early morning appointments!

Thank you ladies, your thoughts and advice are very much appreciated xxx

Hey @Rachae I’m in your same position, absolutely shitting myself for my 12 week scan next week.

I had an early scan at 8 weeks and lost my symptoms at 10ish weeks, so I’m at the peak of anxiety right now.

Just holding on that your chance of something going wrong after seeing the heartbeat at 8 weeks drops to 3%.

Really hope tonight goes well! ❤️

Rachae · 18/01/2022 12:07

Hey @Firsttimetrier ! Aww it's bloody awful isn't it :-( The kind comments on here have made me feel better tho. I'm most panicked about (sorry gross) discharge... there's just none anymore. Don't even know what that means but I freak out about changes!
Thank you and not long to wait until your scan now :-) xx

@Rachae hi lovey, I feel how you do and my scans tomorrow ! We are close in dates and have spoken on other threads
I'm 13+1 tomorrow for my 12 week scan
I also have had a few ( 6, 8,9 and 11) I don't care if that's loads for me it's been key and I honestly couldn't go too long between scans but I'm happy with that.
I keep thinking if things were ok at 11+4 and I was measuring 11+6 there's a good chance all is ok
I'll be looking forward to your update tonight!!
Nothing really helps im afraid other then regular scans, positive thinking whilst thinking no worries will change the outcome and also talking to others on here x

Rachae · 18/01/2022 13:35

Hey @strawberrysummer19 great to hear from you! Yes very close on dates and scan mentality :-D I think the more the better... apart from the actual scan day as I can't bear the dread! Not too much longer to go now and here's hoping I have good news and can reassure others who feel the same xx

@Rachae amazing news! So happy for you xx

strawberrysummer19 · 19/01/2022 19:42

@Rachae my scan also went well today - are you having anymore before your 20wk?

Have you had your screening results? I have my bloods done today so now for the wait...

Scanxiety - what are my chances?
Rachae · 19/01/2022 21:18

@strawberrysummer19 ahhh look at that, amazing!! 😍 yea I think I'll get fortnightly scans from now on, instead of weekly. We opted out of the screening tests as the only way to know for sure after the bloods/NIPT is to do an Amnio or CVS. We've had 4 miscarriages and both carry a small miscarriage risk... So couldn't ever go there. So no point in us finding out a risk factor, if we wouldn't get the subsequent test that would let us know for sure ... If that makes sense? Also I've know lots of women get high risk back and then be anxious all pregnancy... Only to find the baby was absolutely fine!
It's such a personal subject tho and wishing you all the luck with yours 😊 xx
