Breathlessness and fast heart beat

When is this something to be concerned about/ when is it normal.

I find walking up the stairs exhausts me I feel out of breath and my heart speeds up, but I was very fit in November before I found out I was pregnant.

I did mention it to midwife at my booking appointment but she said it might be low iron (however nothing came back from my first blood test)

Does sound like anaemia, are you eating and drinking enough?

I think I'm eating enough. I could drink more but I'm finding if I drink too much I sometimes get sick which doesn't help. That has been better the last couple of days though.

I had this and all my tests came back ok. I read it was something to do with the extra blood you get in pregnancy (or something like that). It went after 12 weeks.

That being said, make sure you follow this up with your midwife rather than going based on my experience

Hi, I did find in the early days of pregnancy that I got breathless ridiculously easily. I remember walking up a very slight incline and getting a bit breathless and feeling embarrassed that my colleague who I was with, would think I was really unfit! I think it is something to do with the extra blood that your body produces. If it gets worse, I would ring your midwife or 111. Hugs xx

Thank you @czycoup, I read similar but Google is like a minefield. I'm coming up to 12 weeks.

It's so weird going from where I was in November to here, I felt a little dizzy earlier too, so definitely think I'll ask some more follow up information.

I'm in the same position. Had my bloods taken today so will see what they say. Midwife also guessed low iron after being surprised to hear me go out of breath leaving the room to do my urine sample!

@glasgowLil, yup that sounds like me! I had to stop on a walk to catch my breath! I'm going to put my smart watch back on to check my heart rate as well this week. So strange what our bodies go through!

It'll be iron. You need some supplements or it'll just get worse.

I have exactly the same as you, I’m 10+5 weeks. Resting heart rate of between 85-100bpm each day and so out of breath just climbing the stairs or trying to talk and walk at the same time. All blood tests are normal, had this in my last pregnancy too and was told it’s the extra blood volume and your heart working extra hard to accommodate everything.
