Iron deficiency

Hiya, just wanted to see if this was pointing to signs of anaemia. Im 8 weeks pg with dc2, 6 months post gastric bypass too and I'm completely wiped out to the point I can't stand for longer than 5 mins. Im sleeping maybe 18 hours a day and cannot seem to get any energy.

Been to docs this morn for a full blood count so will have results in a couple days, but these are my bottom eyelids, does this look like anaemia may be the cause?

Any suggestions of what I can do in the meantime? I'm meant to be starting a new job very soon, not a chance I'll be able too if I don't get my energy levels up.

Could be. You’ll need the blood results to be sure, should be back very soon.

Try eating an iron-rich diet, if you can. I’m not sure what your diet needs to be post-gastric bypass but the most iron-rich and easily absorbed will be red meat - steak etc, ideally in large amounts. Veggie sources are things like seeds, spinach, broccoli, chickpeas and beans. Eat iron-rich foods with something rich in vitamin c in order to absorb more.

The GP will give you oral iron if you’re deficient, but it will take a few weeks to make much difference. If it doesn’t work then you’ll need an iron injection or infusion, if your levels are very low. They need to be given in hospital I believe, so not so easy to arrange.

@drawthelatch

Thanks so much. Luckily my bypass diet is basically protein, protein & more protein so I'm always eating red meat and beans. Broccoli is my favourite veg too so I've had plenty.

Honestly I'm at the point I think I need an infusion I feel so so run down. When I get my results I will ask if it's a possibility, that is if it's iron that's caused it.

I’ve been taking spatone iron water whilst pregnant. It’s recommended to take 2 sachets a day while pregnant. If your irons low you would be prescribed something much stronger but I’ve been taking these as they are safe during pregnancy & don’t have any of the side effects that iron tablets do.

If you do take iron supplements make sue to take with something rich in vitamin c as it helps the iron absorb.
