Scan or no?

Hi all. Just wondering what others would do...

I'm 16 weeks today and have booked a private scan for next Thursday. It's my first baby and my fourth pregnancy in 12 months, so I've been a bit anxious due to previous losses, but nothing I can't manage. All was well at dating scan, which the NHS did at 11 weeks exactly (dated 11+2), and my screening tests came back fine thankfully, but 9 weeks just seems such a long time to wait between scans?! I'm so curious and impatient to find out if all is still going okay.

I'm wondering though if I'm tempting fate by being nosy next week and checking in. Our 20 week scan happens to be on Valentine's Day, which will either be pretty romantic or awful if we get bad news. Not that I'd care at all about V-day if that were the case, but just hoping for a romantic evening after won't help how crushed I'll be if baby is unwell.

Idk if it's better to find out sooner rather than later if something is awry, or if I should just try to enjoy this period of total ignorance until the 20 week scan?

Just wondering what others would do really!

Hi op!

I had two losses last year and currently 24+4 now. I booked a private scan at 16 weeks to check on baby and make sure all was well.

It's nowhere near as detailed as the 20 week scan but it reassured me and they looked baby over to make sure all is looking well! I still was still worried silly for my 20 week scan though.

I would say go for it if it will put your mind at ease Smile it's always nice to see baby more I say!!!!

Congratulations Thanks

Go for a private scan and put your mind at ease. The money is definitely worth the stress of you worrying. I agree that the time between a 12 week scan and a 20 week one can feel a very long time. Just go and do it. I am sure everything will be totally fine x

Thank you both! Yeah, I'm gonna do it Smile I feel a bit disconnected from baby this week and had a nasty dream about the pregnancy last night, so my anxiety probably is ramping up a bit. Will have all my fingers crossed for next Thurs!

I had a private 8weeks scan. A private 15week gender scan. I will be having a scan between my 20weeks and birth too. My last baby was premature and I'm so worried it's going to happen again x

I haven’t had any losses. I had a 16 week scan just because it felt like such a long time since 12 week scan and I hadn’t started to feel movements yet, so like you said I felt really disconnected.
We also found out the sex because it all felt very surreal and I thought I’d find it easier to picture having an actual baby if I knew the sex.
Best of luck x
