6 weeks and small hush of blood

Hi everyone,

Looking for a bit of advice on what to do.

On Thursday evening when I tried to go for a no2 I had some pink discharge, put it down to straining to go (TMI), but it cleared straight away. This morning I've now had a small gush of blood (around the size of a 20p piece), no clots and no cramps. Put a panty liner on and nothing since. When I had my DD I had a UTI at about this time and I'm wondering if it could be the same thing?

I'll give my GP a call in the morning and see if I can go in, or if they will refer me to EPU, but just looking for any advice in the meantime x

It's quite common to have subchorionic hematomas (SCH) - basically a small bruise/bleed somewhere in the uterus. They either get reabsorbed or come out in a little gush.

As long as you've got no painful cramps or continued heavy bleeding you should be fine but obv going in to the EPU to confirm will be a huge load off your mind.

Thank you. I'm hopeful everything is ok. I've had no more gushes so far, but each time I wee the tissue is pink afterwards. Hoping I'll be able to get an early scan at EPU, but if not I think I'll book a private scan just to be sure that everything is ok x

I had a big SCH which came out as a huge gush of red blood and clots - it was absolutely terrifying but scan confirmed what it was and now it’s all resolved at 13weeks. Can you get an early scan.

Glad to hear all turned out well for you, this gives me hope! It seems to have stopped as quickly as it started and I've had no cramping, so hoping it might be something similar.

I'll ring my GP tomorrow and see what they say. In my last pregnancy I had some bleeding early on, I went to GP at about 6 weeks and all they did was checked my cervix, it wasn't until I bled again a few days later and went to urgent care that they tested my urine and found I had a UTI, they then booked me for a scan. If the GP don't want to refer me for a scan I think I'll just pay to have a private one to put my mind at ease x

Could you please tell me how long did the bleeding last? I bled a lot a few days back and I am just looking for some reassurance. I will have a scan on Wednesday, but it feels like forever. I don’t really know the dates.. I might be 5-6weeks pregnant

MollieTD · 16/01/2022 13:28

@Sleepy86 I had one huge bleed at 6 weeks, another slightly smaller bleed a couple of days later and then spotting for a couple of weeks after on and off - still absolutely terrified every time I go to the loo!

MollieTD · 16/01/2022 13:29

Sorry @Sleepy86, should have been @Shanya123!

Shanya123 · 16/01/2022 13:33

@MollieTD I am sorry! Thank you for replying… I had bleeding for a couple of days, similar to my period. I guess it’s more than likely a miscarriage for me. My hcg tests seem to be progressing so I really don’t know what to think anymore

MollieTD · 16/01/2022 13:42

@Shanya123 all I can say I be realistic and cautious but don’t give up hope until it’s confirmed. I still have no idea how anything so tiny could survive the amount of blood I lost. It doesn’t sound dissimilar to mine, it was like a heavy period, with cramps, pain, all the bad signs! My tests were also still blazing positive whilst bleeding. Let us know how it turns out, everything crossed for you!

Shanya123 · 16/01/2022 13:50

@MollieTD Thank you, I will update you on Wednesday regardless of the result. I will keep a little bit of hope. Also I need to stop testing, but what else can I do ..

Sleepy86 · 17/01/2022 13:00

Just heard back from my GP and it's a UTI that's caused the bleed, I'm on a weeks worth of antibiotics, but I'm feeling so relieved!

@Sleepy86 that’s good news! The antibiotics will help get rid of the infection! 🤗
I still have 2 days of waiting for my scan. Today I did another hcg test because I can’t stop testing 😞
I am aware it is not an indicative of everything being ok, but it gives me a little bit of hope.
I have a proper positive dye stealer with a FRER and FMU.

I'm 11+5 and had similar last night. One single woosh of red blood (no clots). I went to my doctor for an emergency scan and all was good. They couldn't find the source of the bleed though. @Sleepy86, did you have vaginal bleeding with a UTI or did it turn out the blood came from the front? I don't think they tested me for a UTI 😬

Sorry to hear you've had a bleed, but glad baby is ok!

I had a small gush of blood, around the size of a 20p piece, but after that it was just blood in my urine and CM. I've had no symptoms of a UTI though, I only asked for it to be checked as I had exactly the same thing in my pregnancy with my DD. If I were you I'd definitely recommend asking for a UTI test to be done, just to rule it out.

Hope the scan goes well. I think I'm going to book one for next week too, just to help ease my anxiety. I haven't done any tests since I started bleeding, but the nausea and sore boobs are still here, so hoping that's a good sign!

Just an update - after no blood on Monday or Tuesday I’m bleeding again 😔 it does seem to be mainly in my wee, but it’s also on my panty liner this time. Still no cramps though, but could it still be a UTI when I’ve had 2 days worth of antibiotics? Going to try and get an appointment with the GP this afternoon and push for a scan at EPU.

Shanya123 · 19/01/2022 13:20

Update: scan didn’t show anything. They said there can be 3 reasons:
Too early viable pregnancy
Too early ectopic pregnancy
Or an early miscarriage and it took to long to be scanned so there is no evidence anymore
They did a urine hcg test with my water-like urine (very diluted) and it was positive (I already knew that, I did one early in the morning and it was still progressing)
They took bloods to check my hcg levels and progesterone levels and said I’ll get a call later on to see what we should do next.

Shanya123 · 19/01/2022 13:23

@Sleepy86
I am sorry to hear that. I really don’t know, but please call the Gp and try and push for a scan just for you to see baby and to be assured.
I am in denial still… I really don’t want to believe the obvious. 😞
