Hello,

I'm starting to look at purchasing a cot and mattress for my baby. Has anyone got any advice on what is the best kind of mattress to purchase? Thanks

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for cot mattress recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best cot mattress page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful.

We bought our cot from Mothercare and the mattress from Amazon, but we made sure that it fit the cot exactly (no gaps to get stuck in) and went with a reputable/recognisable name so that we could feel confident there were no nasty chemicals or anything like that. Ours was a spring mattress I think, and it's still going four years later as it was cotbed size!

The Ikea cot mattresses are which best buys, they test them stringently for safety.

We have a mamas and papas one which is regularly reduced, it flips from a foam for under 12 months to pocket springs after.

Thank you for all of your advice, I'll look into those options.
