Weak cervix, pregnancy and sex

Hi all, looking for information from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

I’m pregnant with a much awaited pregnancy - multiple years TTC, lots of IVF and heart ache.

In the course of treatment it was discovered I may be at risk of a weak cervix - they don’t know for sure.

As a result we’ve taken penetrative sex off the table no problem. But I’m wondering if I can orgasm at all or that might also cause issues? I’ve read orgasm can cause uterine contractions.

I’d love to be able to do something just re closeness to my husband but I’m also too embarrassed to ask my consultant. I mean fine to say oh should we be having intercourse but asking him if I can orgasm seems a bit 🙈🙈

Anyone been told whether this can happen or not?

The last thing I want is to lose this baby through selfishly having an orgasm.

How many weeks are you? If they're concerned about cervix You'd normally have at least one cervical length scan (normally 2) at 16-20 weeks to determine whether cervix has shortened. Maybe wait until those scans to decide about risk / orgasms

I’m 13 weeks so I have my first cervical check at 16 weeks. I guess I will have to just grow up and ask the consultant after that scan! Just starting to find abstinence hard 🙈 Although I know it’s not important in the grand scheme of things! Luckily no chance of it happening until someone confirms it’s ok as DH won’t touch me with a barge pole in case something goes wrong!

I abstained for my pregnancy due to bleeding early on and then finding out that I had a weak cervix at 22 weeks, i didn't even think to ask about orgasm's, but once I reached 36 weeks I did what I could to make up for lost time cough

It's hard and very frustrating, definitely ask the consultant though. I'm pregnant again and think I may ask a few more questions this time relating to that.

@annlee3817 I will report back on what he says at my 16 week scan. I will have to grow up and ask.

What happened for you after you were diagnosed with weak cervix? I am so worried about it. Was baby ok?

Doctor mentioned orgasms specifically to me when talking about placenta previa, ask whatever you want to ask.

Thanks, definitely keen to find out :)

My cervix started to shorten, but I couldn't have the stitch so they put me on progesterone pessaries three times a day for 23 weeks until 36 weeks. Bed rest from 31 weeks as it was soft, shorter and DD was engaged. Pleased to say after all that worry she didn't make an appearance until 40+5

From 23 weeks I meant, not fot

@annlee3817 that’s great so pleased to hear it worked out! Wonderful. Did you get the stitch this time round? Hopefully you won’t have to go through it again.

Only seven weeks, think I'll be seeing a consultant after 12 weeks, hope all goes well for you
