Wondering if anyone has experienced cracked nipples and blocked ducts simultaneously and what helped them !
(Sorry for essay πŸ˜‚)

All has been fine with nursing my second daughter until recently. She is 11 months old. I have had a plugged duct /milk blister on one side for about 2 weeks. I manage to clear with frequent feeding then it comes back a few days later.

And now i also have small cracks on both sides which are pretty agonizing. I'm pretty sure I have thrush on my nipples (causing the cracks?) so have bought treatment for this at pharmacy.

BUT struggling to clear the blockage as the splits are so painful can't seem to feed her for long enough to clear blockage and she pulls off and seem uncomfortable too (could also be oral thrush ?).

Anyone have any tips on how to deal with this and what could be causing it ? I feel like crying at the thought of feeding her which i hate. Soaking my breast in salt water, using nipple cream and air drying.
Any thoughts appreciated πŸ‘

Thanks Smile

Poor you, that sounds awful. I had a recurrent blocked duct which just kept coming back over and over. Eventually went to GP who prescribed antibiotics - it cleared up and never returned. Might be worth trying to speak to your GP to see if they can offer any advice?

That sounds horrid. Give the National Breastfeeding Helpline and/or your Local La Leche League a buzz

If it is thrush, baby will need treatment too or it will keep coming back. I took Soya Lecithin for recurrent plugged ducts. Kellymom is a great website with lots of tips. Good luck!

Thank you all for taking time to reply 😁.
The blockage has improved massively so going to keep an eye on it. If it recurs I will try the GP and breastfeeding helpline.

Also just started asking the lecithin , hoping that works.
Good call on treating baby for thrush i will do this too.

Thank you all for the advice it's much appreciated πŸ‘. I was getting a bit desperate !

Camilson (sp) cream helped me, harmless to baby and really soothed the cracking. Nursing through it is grim but worked.
