Inconclusive nipt harmony test twice...worried

I had an inconclusive harmony test at 10 weeks exactly, I wasn't too worried as it was really early, I was on blood thinners, and a higher bmi of 30, all of which can lead to an inconclusive result.

Had my redraw at 13+2, and results have come back the same, inconclusive due to low fetal fraction. 4% at least is needed for accuracy. I had stopped blood thinners prior to this redraw.

Im 38 and its an ivf pregnancy. Scan at 12+3 looked normal. I'm in ireland and bloods aren't done.

I'm just looking for any positive outcomes from anyone in a similar situation...it seems there is a slight risk of t13/t18 with this result...

I was offered a 3rd draw, wait for my anatomy scan at 21 weeks, or get the amino. I feel lost...

@Tempusfudgeit ya I think more often than not it will work with a high bmi, but seems there is a higher risk of inconclusive results with the high bmi than a normal bmi!

@Jazzy06 I’m in Dublin and had panorama done at 10 weeks with a much higher BMI than you results came back conclusive. My baby is now 5 months old so it was this time last year. I know it’s a treck but might be worth the journey, although surely somewhere in cork/Limerick does it?

Just to update, my 3rd harmony came back inconclusive after drawing at 16 weeks... its a mystery as to why. It has caused me so much stress...both my obgyn & the lab that do the harmony said I'm at no higher risk than the general public...I'm not sure if thsts really accurate though.

Anyhow I was in such a state I got brought in for an 18 week scan and the doctor is really happy with everything, no soft markers seen. He said having an amnio is up to me but he doesn't recommend it based on inconclusive harmony & a good scan. So for now I have declined the amnio and have my anatomy scan at 21 weeks. Im definitely reassured, but a slight lingering uneasy feeling over the failed tests.

@Jazzy06 I had 2 inconclusive harmony results and I have an average BMI, caused me a lot of stress and I ended up having an Amnio because of high risk bloods but baby is 6months now and fine!

Jazzy06 · 11/02/2022 18:49

@KTF367, thank you for this, it definitely makes me feel better....I have spent countless hours reading up and really nearly everyone has had a good outcome with inconclusive tests, and the few that didn't it was usually seen in ultrasound that there was issues...so im definitely feeling more relaxed....

Hi Jazzy,
I hope all is working out well for you. I was wondering if you hd any further updates. Did you seek a refund for your nipt test after?

im in the same boat… waiting on results from my 3rd draw and I am so sick at the thought of what the results will be this time 😞

Jazzy06 · 19/05/2022 08:20

@ziveern I'm so sorry you are going through this aswell, it's absolutely horrible.

But for me so far so good. 32+3 now and everything on ultrasound has been perfect.

Have you had any ultrasounds yourself?

If you want you should check out the nipt thread on reddit, there are loads of people in the same boat and it's usually nothing at all. In the rare case it meant something it was also seen on ultrasound.

@Jazzy06 Hi can you please update?

Jazzy06 · 01/06/2024 00:50

Yes sorry I really should have updated before now. Baby boy born perfectly healthy. No reason for 3 inconclusive test!
