Bleeding at 8 weeks with twins

I'm just panicking and don't really know what to do.

I noticed I've started bleeding this afternoon - it's quite dark and red so I'm not sure it's old blood.

I had a scan on Tuesday at 7+3 and found out we we're having twins - both healthy with strong heartbeats.

I've rung EPU who said I needed to speak to community midwife. She's not working today so waiting for a GP to call me back.

Should I go to the hospital? I'm so afraid of loosing these babies as we conceived through IVF.

Any advice and hand holding appreciated x

Honestly, I would go to the hospital. I had terrible bleeding in my last pregnancy and everything was 'fine' in that my baby is perfectly happy and healthy, but I did need extra scans and was consultant led. I imagine you will be anyway with twins.

Bleeding is surprisingly common during pregnancy.

Congratulations, hope everything is ok with them both.

The trouble is A+E won't be able to do anything other than offer pain relief if you are miscarrying, they won't be able to scan you, most they will do is refer you to EPU which with it being Friday now will mean next week at the earliest Sad it will be a waiting game unfortunately. Crossing my fingers for you OP that everything is okay.

@NotMaryWhitehouse thank you, I have a scan with EPU tomorrow at 9:50 x

That's great! Our EPU is only open Monday to Friday, glad you haven't got to wait until next week!

Are on pessaries still op?

Mrswalliams1 · 14/01/2022 16:30

I had bleeding at 5, 8 and 12 weeks with my Ivf twins. It was a haematoma. They were fine. Good luck

Pieceofpurplesky · 14/01/2022 17:01

Good luck Thanks

2022babyhope · 14/01/2022 17:05

@Pieceofpurplesky I'm on crinone which is a gel I have to squeeze up me. My other progesterone pessaries I take anally so I'm not putting so much up the other way.

I don't want to give you to much positivity, but I lost huge great big clots- mine was a haematoma, like a PP. there was NO WAY I though I wasn't having a miscarriage. But- no pain, not any at all.

The gynae I saw in a and e that night said no pain was a good sign. I too saw EPAU the next morning who confirmed all was well.

Stay calm if you can and rest

LydiaAW · 14/01/2022 18:22

So sorry @2022babyhope I know how stressful this can be.

I had bleeding with my twins at 7 weeks and again at 9 weeks. Scanned at the EPU both times and all was well. Currently 29 +5 with these twins.

Both times it was really scary and understandably so! We never found out why I had bleeding (no clear reason why) but it definitely still has me on edge some times.

Hoping for the absolute best tomorrow and will be thinking of you xxx

Daisypod · 15/01/2022 12:04

Hope everything is ok @2022babyhope been thinking of you this morning

2022babyhope · 15/01/2022 15:49

Thank you everyone x

Babies are both fine with good heartbeats and measuring well - the relief is unbelievable.

The nurse could see a small subchorioinc haematoma which she didn't seem worried about and the bleeding has almost gone today so I'm just thanking my lucky stars.

Thank you for all your advice and well wishes x

I'm so pleased to hear all is OK. I was told as long as the haematoma wasn't big then usually they cause no harm. Good luck with the rest if your pregnancy x

Whysotired · 15/01/2022 16:24

So glad to read! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. Xx
