Hiya can anyone help me please? I've been trying for years to conceive and had no luck I finally found out I was pregnant on the 23rd of December. So exciteddd.. Only I'm abit paranoid now so I keep taking a test every now and again to make sure I'm still pregnant! My positive lines are getting fainter with each test is this anything to worry about?

I'm not too hot on this sort of thing but could it be hook effect?

Jadelara · 14/01/2022 14:50

Im not too sure I don't think so. I mean all my tests up until about 2 weeks ago have been strong it's still showing positive but barely there! I'm assuming there's nothing wrong as I've had no symptoms of a miscarriage ( fingers crossed ) but
Its definitely worrying! I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced faint tests after a few weeks of pregnancy

Have you changed test brand at all? Or have you used the same type throughout?

You could get a blood test for reassurance as they are very accurate. You can also get an early scan at around 6 weeks pregnant. You may have to pay privately as not sure if the NHS will do it. Hope everything goes well.

I've used the same throughout :/ thankyou I'm hoping to have my 12 week scan in about 2/3 weeks! A few people have said that around 10 weeks my hcg levels will have dropped slightly and its normal so fingers crossed.

Apparently if you're using an early-response type test you can get a false negative because of the type of HCG the test is designed to detect and the hook effect, as PP mentioned. Your overall HCG won't have fallen enough to cause an almost-negative test while you're still pregnant. If it's the hook effect then you might get a stronger positive if you test with more dilute urine?

Im using the strip tests now i used clear blue to detect my pregnancy and then tested with the strips! I mean you can see it's positive its just a lot fainter than the previous ones we're! But every test I've taken has always shown positive.
