I have had a few early miscarriages then had my little boy who is now a year. I found out I was pregnant and went for a scan which they said I was too early and to rescan a week later. I went to that scan yesterday but they could only see a gest sac of 13.8mm and yolk sac. They put me at 6 weeks 2 days.

Is this a bad sign that they couldn’t see a heartbeat or fetal pole?

I think it's fairly common as it's quite early. Are you getting another scan soon? Fingers crossed everything is OK.

Another scan is in a weeks time which I think will be the longest wait!
The man who did the scan didn’t realise say if what he saw measure right. just discussed with me a blighted ovium or said it might be a bit early.

When I went for a scan at 6+2 they only saw a gest sac and she took so long to find baby so I felt disheartened - I asked if there was a fetal pole and she said whats more important is a yolk sac to which she then found the baby but my point is, she said it was so early but the fact there was a YS then that's the most important thing so hopefully the same for you xx

Sorry I was 6+4 but like my nurse said they are so so small so it can be missed x

It very is early to see a HB straight away op.
I've been there and waited a week also and it was so hard not going to lie.
But at the next scan, you could see the HB clearly Smile

Lots of love

Wow this is really reassuring to know. I wonder why they didn’t say to me a yolk sac is important! But thank you, you have helped my stress levels. I only think I am about 5 weeks 5 days but they got me a bit ahead. Xx

I had a scan at 5+4 and they could only see the gest sac and yolk sac so totally normal at that stage! I had another scan at 7 weeks and heartbeat was visible xx

With DC2 i had an NHS scan at approx 5 + 4. No heartbeat but they weren't concerned at all. Was rescanned a week later and there was the heartbeat - although I believe sometimes it won't be seen until into the 7th week.

They're so small so it's entirely possible the measurements are off slightly.

My ivf clinic won't do any scans before 7wks as they say it causes too much worry beforehand so like others have said it's quite early but it's good they've seen YS
Fingers crossed for you xxx

Thank you everyone you have all really helped ease my stress ❤️. Hopefully at my next scan they will be able to see the fetal pole and heart beat then.

What do they base their dates on? Is it the size of the gestational sac?

@strawberrysummer19 I completely agree with your IVF clinic. I think I’d definitely think before having a early scan again as it has caused lots of stress! X

Prior to your first nhs scan they go off your last monthly period.
At your dating scan they will go off measurements.
These dates can differ by afew days either side. And it's completely normal/common.

I had IVF so knew exactly but my due date changed by 1 day.

The early scan I had at my clinic was due to a bleed otherwise as pp I would have waited till 7 weeks. (I was in my 5th week)

I would go off the date of your last cycle until your 12 week nhs scan.
