Hi there,
So I'm 40 weeks today 4th baby so I should know what's what by now shouldn't I lol but this pregnancy has been so different from my others. (3 boys - this one is a girl)

Anyway..

  • first pregnancy was emergency c sect, two successful vbacs after .. hoping for another.
  • Been having sweeps since 38 weeks, forth one was yesterday,
-Lost my plug over a week ago.
  • 4cm dilated, still thickish cervix & she's 3/5 engaged.
-had 4 hours of painful but manageable contractions (every 5 mins but only lasting 30-40 secs) yesterday but then they stopped.
  • this morning just feel achey & had what I think is a bloody show.

I guess my question is can I expect this baby any time soon lol. I know no one can say for sure but they are all good signs right? Every time I see the midwife for a sweep she can't believe I haven't had her yet. Says all I need is my waters to go - which they never have till right before I actually give birth. Booked in for an induction at 41 weeks where they'll pop my waters, if that doesn't work it will be a c section which I really would rather avoid!

Has anyone experienced anything like this before? If so is there anything I could try to get the contractions coming again? Thanks so much!

Eat a curry and watch something that makes you laugh. did it for me. They do say sex but I doubt that you feel like that.

I was similar to this. Mid level contractions (manageable but not able to sleep) for over 2 days. Nothing worked on my end...finally my waters went a tiny bit so they said I could come in to be induced but when I got there they found I was already 5cm dilated so I go put on a drip instead to speed things up.

Sex, as a PP suggested. The prostaglandins in semen help to ripen the cervix and encourage contractions. It may even rupture the membranes - it did for me at 39 weeks - (have a plastic sheet on the bed, just in case!).

Thanks everyone.
Hmmm Let's commence the least sexy sex ever then it looks like! Grinif I can even manage it! Going to have a bounce on the birthing ball as well see if that makes any difference. I've been walking LOADS. Emptied a bottle of clary sage oil over the past week too lol.

Sex got things going for me. I'd been having contractions on and off for days, baby very low down, had lost my mucus plug 5 days prior.

Me and DH DTD and about 2/3 hours later, my water went and regular contractions started straight away

I suggest the wildest sex. Get your freak on.

That sounds promising! Fingers crossed it works that well for me! Smile
