Pain after 12 Week Scan

I had my 12 week scan yesterday (14/01) with my 2nd child and it was an extremely painful process. Baby was fine and happy however I had an early scan at 9 weeks which had zero pain whatsoever! (Paranoid it was twins 😂)

Had some very faint bleeding and this morning I feel very bruised and battered. Sonographer was barely talking throughout the whole proceedure.

Should I be worried or just take a paracetamol and hope for the best?

Comgratulations 😊

I had pain at the bottom of my belly after my 12 week scan, i just put it down to how hard they had to press to be able to see. The pain lasted 3-4 days but only when i touched it so never took any pain killers. I had to have a 2nd scan 5 days later as the little one was upside down during the first and wouldnt move and didnt get any pain after that one. Hope this helps :)

I had my 12 week scan whilst still a bit swollen from IVF (OHSS) and it was agony. I have an anterior placenta too so there was a lot of very hard pushing and digging in. It was horrendous. I felt bruised and sore afterwards. About 8 hours after the scan I bled fresh red blood (only a small amount) then spotted brown for almost two weeks. My 14 week scan in comparison was a breeze, it was at a private clinic, great images and zero pain or bleeding. 20 week scan with NHS, absolute agony again! Followed by brown spotting for a few days. Baby looks great though and I have a low lying anterior placenta so I've been told that's the culprit. Hope everything goes well for you

I've felt discomfort after scans but not pain to an extent where I wanted or needed painkillers, and I've never had bleeding from an abdominal scan. It might be worth highlighting to your midwife if you can contact her - she can hopefully reassure you and give advice, and if necessary she can flag up to the sonographer that they've left someone in pain and with bleeding, so they may need to be more gentle in their technique!

I felt really battered and bruised afterwards because baby was in a bad position so i had to empty my bladder and they had to press in deep! It shouldn't be anything to worry about there's a few threads on this, it actually made my stomach pop out a few days later

Hi I was the same at my 12 week scan I had 3 internal scans and an abdominal scan before the nhs 12 weeks ones and none hurt like that one did. She really really dug down. And then she put on my notes limited visuals due to high bmi but when I went for my gender scan 2 weeks later the private sonographer said I was lovely and clear to scan because of my placenta was on the back. Was hours an nhs scan j think they are using very old equipment which isn’t up to the standard of private clinics who buy the best. Am thinking if they hurt me at my 20 week scan am going to say it’s hurting.

Same, had pain during the scan in the left side by the ovary and hurt a couple of days after. Since then all OK.
