13 weeks pregnant and can’t sleep at all!

Hi all, this is my first post here. I’m 13 weeks pregnant with my first and I am struggling with serious insomnia which is sending me crazy.
Went to sleep at 10:30pm and woke up at 1am this morning and that’s me awake. I know I should look at my phone but after an hour tossing and turning it’s impossible not to!

I have been signed off sick from work since late December due to lack of sleep (I’m a secondary teacher) but I want to go back soon and my full pay sick ends so I will need to)

I started to think it was mental health related because in the day I’m snappy and stressy breaking down loads, but I think the lack of sleep is causing that!
Usually I sleep solid 8-9 hours as well!

Is anyone else in the same boat? I am at a lost for ideas of what to do. I’m struggling to cope in the day and since 5 weeks it’s not got any better!
Midwife is referring me to perinatal mental health team but I’m doubtful it’s going to help.
I have no idea how I’m going to go to work and function on 2 hours sleep every night 😔

Firstly congrats!! Secondly there's an app called calm - that helps sone people get back to sleep . Lavender sent in your pillow can help too . Your body has lots going on currently- and it's all new to you so try to go with the flow . It will get better.

Exactly the same!! I'm 14 weeks and I can literally get a couple of hours and then I'm wide awake all night but exhausted all day Confused

I sympathise, I’m similar although it has got better in the last few weeks (20 weeks now). But first trimester and a bit beyond I was often awake for hours on end. It is a ‘normal’ pregnancy symptom so you’re not strange, it’s horrible though! Sometimes I found that getting up and eating something helped? Just a banana or something. I hope it passes soon for you. I still wake some nights (like now!) but it’s not every night anymore and not as early in the night.

Me too. Can't sleep at all. It's utterly exhausting and leaving me a useless mess for work. (14 weeks)

Omg!
I wasn’t expecting so many replies so early in the morning! I ended up scrolling Facebook but still no sleep!
It’s reassuring to feel like I’m not on my own.
Keep looking at my partner and dog snoring their heads off… I’m so jealous

I was struggling with getting to sleep from around week 8 to week 13. I went back to the gym and started being more active around week 13 and started sleeping much better. Maybe try some exercise/long walks?

A lot of posts about it here so yea youre not alone.. its driving me insane also, getting angry and all at this point... cant sleep too every night awake around 2 am and fall asleep in the morning and then feel awful when i wake up .. have another kid so cant sleep during the dday at all. Its maddening. And awake for no reason at all. Instead having a nice rest while i can now, partner and kid asleep noone wakes up, nope - i have to stare at the dark every night 🙂

Hi @LaurenMumsie if you've tried all sleep hygiene tips ( bedtime routine, warm milky drink, no screen time, exercise) ask your GP to prescribe a pregnancy safe sleeping tablet. You can take phenergen for example, a first generation antihistamine. You shouldn't take it in final trimester/close to birth as it may mean baby will need to be monitored after birth as it can make them more sleepy/possibly affect breathing. Phenergen is prescribed for morning sickness also.
