Transverse worries!

Ok so I’m scared 😣

My husband and I attended our 28 week growth scan today and I suppose I’m just looking for reassurance or anyone that has been in a similar position.

After our scan, upon seeing the consultant, we have been told baby is lying transverse (across my belly, she has been this way for a while). A c section will be scheduled for 39 weeks. She has gone through the risks of early labour and cord prolapse if she doesn’t turn. I’m absolutely petrified!

She is also measuring small, currently sitting on the bottom line of my growth chart, I’m praying she turns. I’m in such a panic, I’m still working yet I’m not sure if that’s for the best.

Has anyone had their baby lying transverse and gone into early labour? I’m being monitored every two weeks.

Thank you!

Hi there

I was transverse until week 31 then baby turned. I know people who’ve had them turn as late as week 38. Try not to worry too much and there are a few things you can do to encourage baby into a head down position. My midwife recommended:

Not sitting back on the sofa and instead opting for upright resting positions. A dining chair was best for this with me but I’ve also since blown up my birthing ball which is actually more comfortable.

Staying active. Going for regular walks, not sitting at a desk for too long etc.

Best of luck! Hope the little one turns for you :)

Hi!

Thanks for your reply.

I'm keeping everything crossed. I've got a manual job so I'm on my feet a lot but going on maternity in 3 weeks and I'm on light ish duties as I'm struggling to bend etc... I'll definitely invest in a birthing ball and give sitting up right a go!

Thank you x

I'm 34 weeks and baby moves between transverse & breech but has never gone head down.
Told my midwife at my appointment last week & she said it's too early to worry as there's still time for baby to turn. They don't see it as a concern until 36 weeks I believe and as pp said some babies turn even later than that.
They can do an ECV to attempt to turn baby head down & there's the website 'spinning babies' which had advice and exercise to encourage baby to move head down.
I assume you're being monitored for other reasons as well if you're having growth scans & are under consultant care so perhaps the risks are different in your specific circumstances.

Plenty of time. With DD she was in a different position at every appointment, except head down, until 36 weeks. She stayed that way and was born a week later.

I’m surprised your consultant said all that to you at this stage. I’ve been having growth scans every two weeks. Baby was transverse at every scan between 24 and 30 weeks. I asked about when to be concerned about this and she said the majority of babies turn by about 34/35 weeks. If baby hadn’t turned by 36 weeks they would try and manually turn them and if not we would have to discuss c- section. Baby turned last week (at about 31+3). I also started sitting on a birthing ball about a week before this which may not have made a difference but it obviously didn’t hurt.

Also my baby was measuring below the 5th centile at 24 weeks but has slowly been climbing up. Now on the 30th centile.

So try not to worry too much - easier said than done I know but it really is soooo much more likely than not that everything will be absolutely fine.

Mine was transverse until 38 weeks and boy was it uncomfortable especially as she was on the large size. I'd basically accepted I was having a C-section and then she turned all by herself, so don't give up hope just yet x

Hi, 28 weeks is really extremely early to worry about baby position! Theres like 13 weeks to go , they still move wherever in the belly!
Theres some consultants that really forgot why they have been put in their jobs there. Scaring moms.. absolutely nothing to worry about calm yourself , its way too early xxx mine is still laying across at 32 weeks, so was my first baby, it will turn later on x
