Hi all I might sound dumb for this but I’m really confused I have had the injections after having my last 2 babies after birth for a couple of weeks but this time apparently I might have to be having them from 28weeks of pregnancy right up until 6 weeks after birth which seems a lot! Also am I just being dumb by thinking if I have them from 28weeks of pregnancy won’t I have a greater risk of bleeding out more after birth it’s really starting to worry me I’ve never had to take them during pregnancy before and also I’m on low dose aspirin everyday won’t this all be too much I don’t see my midwife until next month and my appointment with the heamatology clinic is also next month just wondered if anyone has had them before during pregnancy and all has been okay

Hi, why are they suggesting blood thinners for this pregnancy? I have to take aspirin and clexane whilst pregnant due to a blood clotting disorder. I had similar worries about bleeding etc but all was fine. I was told to stop the injections at the first sign of labour. My waters went literally as I'd just done my injection (and I panicked!) but as it turned out labour didn't start and I had to be induced the following day so all turned out fine. To minimise bleeding I was advised to have the injection to get the placenta out quick and then I was put on a drip for 6hrs after the birth to help reduce risk of bleeding. I was reassured that blood thinners in pregnancy are pretty common and the hospital are used to managing labours where this is a factor. My biggest worry was not being able to have an epidural as you can't have one if you injected less than twelve hrs before. But again I was told if labour happened quick I wouldn't need one and if things progressed slow there would be time to have one. Hope that helps a little.

Thank you for that and I haven’t really been given reason as to why they want me to have them this time I’m not sure if it’s because it’s my 5th baby I only had injections after birth with both my youngest never had them with my older 2 I will ask again when I have midwife as my consultant said I didn’t need them but then I’ve had a letter for an appointment with heamatology so I assume that’s about the injections
