Hi I go for regular scans at the early pregnancy unit due to previous losses and I've got one next week where I will be 7 weeks 2 days. I know every pregnancy is different but I'm just curious - at what stage did you hear your babies heart beat? X

You should be able to see the heartbeat by 6 weeks or so but in terms of hearing it on a Doppler I think it depends on a number of factors (location of baby etc) but likely at some point between 9 and 12?

Winniemarysarah · 10/01/2022 16:46

I remember being 5 weeks and 4 days and they mentioned seeing a yolk but no heartbeat yet. You should definitely see one at over 7 weeks

Informeddecision · 10/01/2022 16:49

I heard it at 12 weeks when the midwife used a Doppler. But I remember her saying they wouldn’t normally do it until 16 weeks as it can be difficult to find. Might be different on a scan though.

6 weeks+1 or 2 days (can't remember exactly) both times

It's not the end of the world if you don't though, as even a couple of days at this stage makes a huge difference.

babyjenks93 · 10/01/2022 17:17

I saw it at my early scan (I was 9+2) and at the 12 week scan but heard it on the doppler at my 14 weeks appointment with my midwife. :)

Trinacham · 10/01/2022 17:28

Saw the heartbeat first at 8 weeks, heard it first at 16 weeks

ChinChilly · 10/01/2022 17:32

10+5 at a private scan, I don't think its the done thing at NHS scans, I've had 3 NHS ones and only ever heard it at a private scan.

Trinacham · 10/01/2022 17:41

No, I didn't get offered to hear it at any of my NHS scans. The midwife only first offered it at my antenatal appointment at 16 weeks.

becca3210 · 10/01/2022 17:43

8 weeks at a private scan (which was my first scan(

Tinkles78 · 10/01/2022 17:44

Saw and heard the heartbeat at just over 7 weeks at a private scan. Only time I heard it in the NHS was at my 16 week appointment with a Doppler

WakeUpLockie · 10/01/2022 17:47

Hear: 16 weeks

See: 7 weeks

Bells3032 · 10/01/2022 18:07

Saw the heartbeat at 7weeksish. Heard it about 11 weeks

MCMP13 · 10/01/2022 18:08

Thank you for all your responses. Fingers crossed I will see it next week then 🤞🤞 x

Earliest we've had a scan is 7 weeks exactly and we could see a tiny flicker and hear the heartbeat then

Jupiter92 · 10/01/2022 18:26

I heard it at 6+5 but I’m in a different country so it’s private healthcare, I don’t know if that makes a difference. It was an amazing experience to hear it the first time though!

JurassicWorld · 10/01/2022 18:30

Still not heard my baby's heartbeat and I am 28 weeks. Saw the heart beating at scans but I've never had it checked at midwife appointments.

JAR1981 · 10/01/2022 18:46

Saw it at 6+3 and heard it at 10+2 - both private scans. NHS I didn’t hear until 16 week midwife check.

MCMP13 · 20/01/2022 16:33

I saw a heartbeat today at 7 weeks 1 day. Can't quite believe it x
