SMP/Maternity Allowance - CONFUSION!!

Hi everyone, hope you're all keeping well!

Can anyone help me with maternity allowance?! I have been given an SMP1 form from one of my workplaces as they can't give me statutory 🙃 but my other workplace can as i earn enough average weekly earnings...has anyone completed this form with two jobs, one being able to pay SMP and one not? Can I get SMP from one job and maternity allowance from another? It's all just so confusing and stressful. Us mums already have the worry about money when due to go on maternity, but when stuff like this occurs, it's mind blowing 🤯

Also if I can't receive both SMP and maternity allowance, can I claim any other benefits? Has anyone else been in this situation? I only stress because we have a mortgage and bills and a toddler to provide for! Help a heavily pregnant mumma out 😔

I believe you can only claim 1.

I can't post my thoughts on the rest of your post

You cant get maternity allowance plus SMP. What's the reason for not qualifying in the other job?

Might you get universal credit or ESA while on maternity leave?

Akire · 08/01/2022 21:12

ESA is a sickness and disability benefit so I doubt that would be in play.

You would only qualify for other benefits alongside maternity pay if your household income falls below a certain level. You can use various benefit calculations to see what you may get. But it doesn’t replace your “pre baby wage” level just supposed to keep you from sinking in poverty levels of income.

That is assuming by we you meant a working couple not we as in toddler and yourself!

So the job that can't pay me SMP is because my average weekly earnings aren't high enough, urgh. But my average weekly earnings in my other job are. I've just looked online to see what I'd be entitled to once baby is here and apparently I'd get £154 a month of universal credit 🙃

This link may be helpful to you OP. As others have said you can’t claim SMP and MA but other benefits may be available to you
