Just out of interest how long did it take you to get your booking appointment through from first contact?

I called on 29/12/21 and have my booking appointment on 20/01/22 when I think I’ll be around 9.5 weeks.

Daisysandviolets · 06/01/2022 17:06

I self referred at six weeks for my appointments through around a week later and actually had the booking at 11 weeks x

mumofmunchkin · 06/01/2022 18:17

I self referred at about 5 weeks, heard from them again at about 7/8 weeks and they booked me in for my booking in at 10 weeks.

MeatyRvita · 06/01/2022 18:23

Self referred online at 6 weeks, I’m coming up for 9 1/2 weeks now and have not heard anything yet and despite calling different numbers have had no luck. 🤷‍♀️

Cakecakecheese · 06/01/2022 18:46

At the moment some places have delays. I self referred 12th December and got my appointment through 2 days ago.

Firsttimetrier · 06/01/2022 18:54

Self referred at 6 weeks, had my letters for both booking appointment and my 12 week scan the week later.

My booking appointment was at 8 weeks and my 12 week scan is 12+6.

I’m in east London for reference 😊

rainbowplease · 06/01/2022 19:20

Thanks everyone. I self referred a few days ago but I think I'm already 20 weeks so hoping it'll be closer to 1 week than 3 weeks to hear anything.
Certainly hope I'm not waiting as long as you @MeatyRvita

When I phoned I got my midwife appointment over the phone straight away and my 12 week scan date/time x

surprised12 · 06/01/2022 20:58

GP referred me as soon as I found out (4ish weeks), got a call on 29th Dec from midwife, booking app on Tuesday 11th - I'll be just over 7 weeks - so it was really quick for me.

rainbowplease · 07/01/2022 10:41

@babyboybluex that's how it was where I used to live, really good system. Now I have to sent an email with all my details and wait for a response.

@surprised12 that's good, I think I'll chase next week when I'll be around 21 weeks - although I'll feel really bad as they're probably very busy.

Super speedy here too. I self referred 20 Dec, midwife contacted me 23rd, had booking appt 5 jan (6+6), bloods in for next week and received a letter with my 12 week scan appointment this morning. Seems to have been pretty efficient!! But does sound like there’s a lot of inconsistency depending on your midwife team. If you think you’re 20 weeks you should definitely chase up ASAP!

So have you not seen or spoken to anyone for your whole pregnancy- that's crazy!! I would chase them x

Please chase them up now if you think you're already 20 weeks! Yes maternity services are completely over stretched right now and people are busy, but it's really important you get seen ASAP so the appropriate bloods and screening can take place.

Hugasauras · 07/01/2022 14:57

You need to chase ASAP if you're already 20 weeks! You need proper antenatal care, and they might not have seen your referral or realised how far along you are.

stmw123 · 07/01/2022 15:11

You need to chase this up asap. You're a very late booker and need antenatal care! What happened?

Moancup · 07/01/2022 15:20

Please chase OP and don’t worry about them being busy. You’re later than most women getting a booking appointment so they won’t mind.

For anyone else waiting after a first trimester referral I recommend checking the NHS app if you have it. I haven’t received any letter or call but checked the app after a friend said it was getting late and lo and behold a secret appointment had been made for me. The great thing about the app is you can then change to a clinic and time that works best for you!

rainbowplease · 07/01/2022 15:36

It's my fault, not theirs. I only found out I was pregnant this week so only made contact at the start of the week. I'm quite anxious as DC1 was high risk for down syndrome and had anomalies on the 20 week scan (no ongoing issues) so I know how important it all is. If the average wait time to get an appointment through was 1 week I was going to wait it out, if more like 3 I'd consider going for a private scan. Do you think I should ring them instead of waiting?

OP posts:
Moancup · 07/01/2022 15:47

Yes please ring them @rainbowplease. They’ll be pleased to get you booked in asap.

rainbowplease · 09/01/2022 23:23

@Moancup I couldn't find a relevant number online (from memory these were given with the pregnancy notes last time) so I'll ring the gp in the morning to see if they can refer me for a scan asap.
