9 weeks pregnant and experiencing brown discharge - is this normal?

I’m 9+1 today and I’ve just seen brown discharge on the paper when I’ve wiped. This is my first pregnancy after a third trimester loss so I naturally feel more anxious. I’ve not had any scans so far, and I’ve got 3 weeks until my 12 week scan. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and things have been ok?

I've had blood discharge in pregnancy and had both out comes, first was with my miscarage at 12 weeks had one case of spotting at 10 weeks, then more the week later that gradually got heavier and I eventually passed my pregnancy at 12 weeks, second time was at 8 weeks with my current pregnancy, I had right sided pain and one case of bloody discharge, no more since and am now 22 weeks pregnant. So it realy doesn't mean the worst is happening, however I knew my miscarage pregnancy wasn't going to end in a live birth, just intuition I guess.

I had brown spotting with my previous pregnancy and it did stop and my baby was ok. I had spotting with this pregnancy and I am currently 20 weeks. I would take a photo of the spotting and show it when you go for your first scan. They said it was old blood and mine was never red. I am just giving you my experience. Wishing you all the best.

@Pesimistic @Ilovechocolatecoins thank you both for commenting. I’m sorry for your loss @Pesimistic. It’s good to know there’s a chance things could still be ok, thank you. It’s such a worry, I’ve not had a single symptom in this pregnancy and then I saw the spotting today, hopefully things will be ok but I guess only time will tell. Thank you for your experiences ❤️

I understood it is fresh blood, which is what I had when I mc'd, that is the worry. At same time I would put your feet, as I was advised at time and get checked if it happens again. Wishing for you that all will be well Flowers

Thank you @HeyGirlHeyBoy, I appreciate that. Will take it easy and see how things go over the next few days, will contact the midwife if things get any worse. Sorry for your previous loss 💐

Thank you Santiago. It was 10 years ago now, but I still remember all those details.. I have had 2 little darlings since then. Thinking of you now. Take great care.

SantiagoSister · 06/01/2022 22:46

Absolutely @HeyGirlHeyBoy, those details will certainly never leave us I believe. I’m so pleased to hear you had two rainbows after your loss, that gives me some hope. I hope I’m lucky enough to bring this bub home 🙏🏻 Thanks so much for your kind words.

I had brown bleeding that was unexplained at 8 weeks. Just enough to be consistently there when I wiped. Had a scan at EPU and baby was fine. The only reason I could attach in my head was that my body forgot it wasn’t meant to be having a period.

I had brown discharge throughout the whole first trimester (well, started from 6 weeks to about 12 weeks if memory serves me correctly). I also had 2 red, fairly heavy bleeds, one at 8 weeks, another at 10 weeks. No one could ever explain why. Once I was in the second trimester it all stopped! Now 37 weeks with a healthy baby boy 💙

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 09/01/2022 19:18

Hope you're OK Santiago.

@SantiagoSister sorry you are experiencing this… I surprised you have not been offered an early scan after a third trimester loss! It’s entirely up to you but if I were in your situation I think I would call the early pregnancy unit explain your history and ask for a scan. It could be absolutely nothing - as other posters have said and I’ve also experienced you can have spotting and it just go away. However I’ve also had a MMC were we discovered at the 12 week scan baby had died 2 weeks earlier. I think only you know if you’d rather try and find out more now or keep everything crossed and wait for 12 week apt. With your history I’d be really surprised if EPU won’t see you xxx

Thank you all for your reassuring comments, I really appreciate them and they’ve made me feel more hopeful that things might be ok, and that it doesn’t always immediately mean the end of things. Thankfully I’ve only had the one episode of the brown discharge the other day, really hoping it stays that way. If it returns I’ll contact the EPU and see if I can get a scan to see what’s going on. Thank you all!

Thank you for checking in @HeyGirlHeyBoy ❤️

Do get yourself checked out. I had BD got lots of reassurance but it turned out to be molar. No one ever really knows, sometimes it's ok, sometimes it isn't. Healthcare providers weren't worried about the brown discharge but because of anxiety of my last loss I booked a private scan where they found a molar, otherwise it wouldn't have been picked up until much later😞

I hope you get a good outcome.
