Worried, just found out I'm potentially 20 weeks

I haven't had a period for several months which I put down to a variety of factors including miscarriage in June. I did a pregnancy test before booking a doctors appointment which was positive. Complete shock as we were using condoms whilst I emotionally recovered.

I'm absolutely terrified as I'v been eating 'banned' foods - including whilst abroad which I think is worse due to differences in hygiene standards - and not so long ago I was deficient in folate.

Last night I could feel loads of movement though I don't look pregnant at all. I have emailed the midwife but assuming they'll be dealing with a backlog from Christmas and new year so no idea how long I'll have to wait to get any sort of reassurance.

Anyone else found out so late? My other pregnancies I'v known at 4 weeks.

Me
I was 20 weeks pregnant with dd2 before I found out. I went to the doctors thinking I had a kidney infection.
I had alcohol, food, Sunbed.
I was in shock.
Dd2 was born healthy.

No personal experience but this happens a lot. Don't worry about food, that's mostly about avoiding food poisoning so you are clearly ok. Previous folate deficiency is also very likely not to have an impact as there is a clearly a successful pregnancy here. Congratulations! First thing is to get a scan and see how far along you are. You can start taking folic acid again tomorrow. I know it's a shock but when it happens like this it's usually a healthy uneventful pregnancy - hence being under the radar! 😀

@ParkheadParadise that's good to know. I'm in shock too, kind of relieved I found out at home rather than at the doctors. I'v been drinking as well, not lots though so I'm not too worried about that.

@Northernlurker thank you. DC1 had anomalies on the 20 week scan which they said could be caused by a virus so I think that's why I'm paranoid about food. My rational brain is telling me that lots of women continue to eat soft cheese etc by choice. I had a pack of 5mg folate left over so I'v already taken one.
