Pregnant with copper coil

Hi,

I wanted to start a thread to connect with others that have become pregnant with a coil in situ. Partly because I am interested as to how common it is and also to share experiences. I sometimes find it difficult to connect with my friends who planned pregnancies as to tell the feel I am less prepared and have spent the last few months in shock!

My copper coil was removed at 6 weeks following a positive pregnancy test and scan at my local hospital. I am now 19 weeks, very fortunate to have no complications. I found that first appointment very stressful and feel like I'm only just settling into pregnancy. I feel frustrated that my coil was checked visual a week before I found out and no problems detected, I wasn't even advised to do a pregnancy test when my period was a few weeks late, it was all considered my coil settling. (Even though it had been in a year!)

Due May 2022. Would be happy to hear anyones story.

Many years ago. Thankfully I have very very early “pregnancy” symptoms and had the coil removed smoothly without issue. He’s a grown man now.

@fallfallfall thank you for sharing. It's nice to hear about a successful pregnancy. Sounds like your early pregnancy symptoms helped you work out what was going on!

Yes, he was my third pregnancy. I had 3 under 3. So very aware. Following his birth I had a tubal ligation, which was effective the rest of my reproductive years.

I'm currently 20 weeks with no3 and have the mirena coil in situ. I found out I was pregnant at 9+5 weeks and they wouldn't remove coil for obvious reasons. I'm due may 2022 also. I was actually pregnant when I had the coil fitted after 4 months of constant bleeding I was advised to get the coil and because of the bleeding never entered my head I could be pregnant (obvs dtd once but never entered my mind) so it was very much a shock i have been very fortunate so far I am still worried although midwife etc don't seem to be too concerned.

I'm also interested to hear others experiences. Hope you're keeping well.

@fallfallfall I was wondering what contraceptive route to go down after pregnancy myself, all hormonal forms are out for me so the copper coil was my last bet. Good to know that was effective for you.

@cf20124 thank you for sharing your story. So great to speak to someone at a similar stage to myself. I have also felt anxious, hoping if we all share there will be comfort in it. Great to hear your midwife isn't concerned though. I was wondering if the copper or mirena were less likely to move but it seems they both can slip!
