Finding out I’m pregnant

I found out I was pregnant 2 weeks ago approx 4 weeks and now approx at 6 weeks , I know you have to ring the doctors as soon as you find out but I left it abit first because last time I found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks I ended up miscarrying so didn’t want to get my hopes up again , but so far so good 🤞🏼 . Anyway all I wanted to know was like what do I say when I ring up the doctors to book that first appointment , I’m an awkward person over the phone so just want to make it sound like I know what I’m saying rather than being awkward about it lol , I’m 22 and always just let my mom call up the doctors whenever I needed to 🤦🏼‍♀️ Time to grow up now I guess hahah

We don't ring the doctors in our area. We have to self refer ourselves to the hospital so I went on the hospital website and onto their maternity services bit and filled in a form. Then a few weeks later got a letter for my booking appointment. Maybe Google it for your area just to see as some places maybe you do contact your GP but we don't here.

In most areas you self refer online for the midwives, not any need to tell the GP really. Then the midwives get in touch for your booking appointment which isn’t till 9/10 weeks. No one even asks for a positive pregnancy test to confirm in the meantime.

Congratulations! Depending on your local health care Trust you may just be able to self refer online to your chosen hospital. I looked at all of my local hospitals online, chose the one I wanted and filled in a form in their website. They then sent me an appointment with the midwives. Otherwise, call the doctors and say you've found out you're pregnant and you'd like to know how to get referred to the midwives for your booking appointment. Good luck!

Google midwife services for you area, should take you to a central page where you can either self refer online of they advise you on how, congratulations :)

Call or self refer as soon as you can. A lot of areas are experiencing delays so you could be waiting a little while for appointments to come through.

Take folic acid if you’re not already. And congratulations!

Just ring and say you're pregnant and could they advise next steps please?

You'll be the mum making the appointments soon, time to get used to it Wink
