Hello you lovely lot

I’m hoping somebody may have some pearls of wisdom for me in regards to the following….

I’m 12 weeks pregnant today & have been suffering with constipation (on top of nausea & sickness) since 6 weeks. The joys!

However (TMI to follow i’m so sorry) for the past several hours I have been on & off the toilet trying to birth a humongous poop but IT’S STUCK! I’m literally sat on the toilet going “GET OUT OF MEEEE” & nothing

I’ve managed to pass the smallest little chunks by aiding it with my fingers (bork) pressing on the area & knocking the tip off as it pokes out, like some sort of sadistic whack-a-mole. But there’s a tonne left up there, taunting me as it retreats back into hibernation!

First question - anybody else experienced this? Where the poop is literally just STUCK at the entrance?!
Second question - how long did it take for it to come out
Third question - what can i do to ‘induce labour’ so to speak, of this monster. I am so uncomfortable!

Thank you

OMG I had this the other day and I'm only 7 weeks!
I did exactly the same as you (chipped away at it). Try not to keep straining away as you may hurt your butt. What worked eventually was sipping a hot drink and walking around a bit (very uncomfortably) in the bathroom. The rest of it came out within 15 mins. Had to explain to DH why I wanted a hot drink in the bathroom. Very embarrassing. It definitely scared me into drinking more water. Good luck with the bastard!

Have you tried pushing it from inside your vagina with your thumb? That can help

LadyPropane · 04/01/2022 06:27

Exercise.

I know it's the last thing you feel like doing when pregnant and constipated (and believe me, I really do know as I have a LOT of experience of your situation) but it's the best thing for it.

Run, big walk, dancing, whatever. Just get moving and work up a sweat.

To stop this from happening again in the future you can take Metamucil. It's safe to take every day and keeps your poos soft and easy to pass. It was a life saver for me in all of my pregnancies.

Get some glycerine suppositories from the pharmacy. They are easy to use , and they will cause the entire "monster" to be expelled.

Driposaurus · 04/01/2022 06:35

When you’re sitting on the toilet, have your feet raised on something (like a child’s step). But it does sound like you’ll need some suppositories too…

Bells3032 · 04/01/2022 06:35

Have you put your feet up when trying to poop. Absolute game changer for me. I used the bathroom bin as a footstall. Made it much easier

TashieWoo · 04/01/2022 06:39

I had similar at 15 weeks ( although not the emergency situation you describe) and it made me unwell for a week so you have my sympathy! Fresh orange juice worked for me, or can you have a strong-ish coffee? I know the caffeine isn’t ideal but as long as that is your only intake for today. And keep moving around if you can.

I have orange juice and a high fibre breakfast every day now and haven’t had any further problems 🤞🏻

DragonMamma · 04/01/2022 06:40

I had this - it was so traumatic.

Sheer determination got it out after a couple of hours.

You’re not taking vitamins with iron in by any chance, are you?

pigcon1 · 04/01/2022 06:41

Speak to your pharmacist but Movicol/glycerin suppository would help.

ImInStealthMode · 04/01/2022 06:41

All of the above, and lube.

ittakes2 · 04/01/2022 06:43

vaseline on a cotton bud

GnomeyGnome · 04/01/2022 06:44

Lots and lots of fluids. Walk around, squat, roll your hips. Put some lubricant (vaseline or something else) around the area. If you have a potty or large pot, squatting on the floor can be a good position (or squatting on the toilet but I don't have the dexterity for that!). Or as someone else said, raising your feet whilst sitting on the loo.

You have my sympathies! Flowers

whosaidtha · 04/01/2022 06:45

Squatty potty.

Dollywilde · 04/01/2022 06:46

I had this after DD’s birth and a liberal application of Vaseline really helped (around and inside). Good luck - and try and up your water intake if you can to prevent it happening again!

escapingthecity · 04/01/2022 06:49

Try Fybogel powder mixed into glasses of water. Helps keep you regular. And get more fibre into your diet - I ate a lot of bran flakes!

RedRobin100 · 04/01/2022 06:53

At this point I’d try a strong coffee and some
Exercise / a walk, and yes then some over the counter intervention, like lube or suppositories. Try not to strain as you’ll give yourself piles. It’s really uncomfortable but better to let it work itself out.

I had horrendous postpartum constipation, not helped by being on iron tablets also. So I empathise.

20viona · 04/01/2022 06:56

Im sorry but sadistic whack a mole for me laughing out loud. I do hope you feel better soon.

annlee3817 · 04/01/2022 07:16

Vaseline just inside

Get in a warm bath and poo in there-scoop it out and deposit in toilet! My midwife actually recommended that to meGrin.

Somerandomgirl · 04/01/2022 07:38

Glycerin suppositories! 🙂

Crazydoglady123 · 04/01/2022 07:40

I had this when I had 5 ruptured cysts. Someone actually recommended to me to hook a finger inside your vagina and press against the wall of your back passage and help push it out which actually works as gross as it sounds. Not sure if they're allowed in pregnancy too but glycerin suppositories also help and are great too

cherrytree63 · 04/01/2022 07:45

When you're that constipated it needs tackling from both ends!
I sometimes get really impacted after a GA, like I'm trying to pass a cricket ball.
Rocking on the loo helps.
Also staying on the same floor as the loo, I find that if I'm downstairs and think things are moving, climbing the stairs makes everything "clench"
Hope you get sorted soon!

Adelais · 04/01/2022 07:48

Go to the pharmacy and get Movicol . It worked for me when I had the same problem when pregnant.

MrsDrSpencerReid · 04/01/2022 07:55

Ohhh boy did this happen to me GrinBlush

First pregnancy I had hyperemesis, couldn’t keep anything down, even water. The constipation was horrendous! I tried absolutely everything, but I was so so ill. Enemas, suppositories, laxatives (all on my GP’s advice) nothing would budge it.

I ended up in emergency and had to have it ‘manually extracted’ by a nurse Blush

This was after they did an ultrasound to look at all the poo Blush The Dr kept pointing saying “See this? Poo. This? Poo. This right here? Also poo.”

Poor DH had to sit and hold my hand while the nurse did the extraction and I shed many embarrassed tears!

Once the nurse had extracted a fair bit, I was able to finally ‘go’ and it felt like I passed a fucking wine bottle. The toilet clogged and they had to call maintenance Grin

The following day I think I pooped another 3 times before I was finally empty. It had literally been weeks!

Second pregnancy, hyperemesis again, constipation again, but I was able to ‘sort it out myself’ before it got too bad. It was still awful and took days and lots of tears but there was no way I was going to hospital again!
