I had 2 +ve tests and went to doctors, she asked when my last CD1 was, and said I was 6 wks gone, but didnt do a test.

Is that usual?

That's normal. Their tests would test the same way as the over the counter ones - no need for them to do one too.

LoveAngelGabriel · 22/12/2007 13:21

Happened to me too. My doc said 'if you've had a positive, you've had a positive! No need for me to confirm'. I was a bit miffed, but I guess he was right.

Lizzylou · 22/12/2007 13:21

Yes, the doctor never once offered me a test (have two DS's).
Is it your first? I remember making a fuss that my first MW appt was at my 12week stage, the receptionist looked at me, smiled serenely and said "Is it your first baby?". 5 weeks seemed so long to wait!

Congratulations

Sidge · 22/12/2007 13:24

Yup that's normal.

The tests that GPs have are the same as you buy over the counter, but are in a different form (we use bulk buy Clearblue tests which you drop the wee onto).

We don't test if a patient has had a positive test - why do it twice? Waste of money!

Congratulations

brusselbeansprouts · 22/12/2007 13:26

No they don't. First time I was amazed that they didn't but understand why. In fact, my GP doesn't do much at all, but that's another story...!

AimsmumPaPumPumMeAndMyDrum · 22/12/2007 13:29

Mine did, it came back negative twice!!! No idea what they were doing, as shop bought ones were giving me instant +ves

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 22/12/2007 13:31

Nope. He said there was no need. Positive is positive.

brusselbeansprouts · 22/12/2007 13:32

The shop ones are often better (more sensitive) than the GP ones anyway!

orangehead · 22/12/2007 13:55

I been preg 5 times, all except one time the doc did no test. One doc even said the ones you buy are more accurate than thiers . The locum doc did a test on my 3rd preg, I had had a positive at home, but his come back negative I was so upset but he said to ignore and I was preg as I had had a postive at home (why did he do one then) but I was still upset so went home and did another which was positive

Gemy · 22/12/2007 13:58

Yes very usual. I was told by my doctor that the Clearblue is the best test there is and - since I used these tests both times I got a positive - there was no need for any further testing.

mummyofaprincess · 22/12/2007 15:33

I was shocked when i told my gp and he didn`t do a test!

He just booked me in for the midwife i was a bit

He even said to me there was no need to see me you should have just booked in at the desk for a midwife appointment!

With DD (3) I had a test etc so i didn`t know it had all changed lol

MerryAnnSinglemas · 22/12/2007 15:35

mine did, simply because I couldn't believe that all four shop bought tests could be positive !! They gave me a photocopy of the results too

tassisssss · 22/12/2007 15:39

yes that's normal. no tests here either.

congratulations!

madChristmasmouse · 22/12/2007 15:43

I remember feeling a bit of a fraud until I had my first scan and saw that I was indeed carrying a little one. I had a GP appt and booking in with MW and all that time no one checked I was actually pregnant , although I did take my positive test stick to my GP.

PoinsettiaBouquets · 22/12/2007 15:50

I think they probably do it in America so it's something extra to charge for.
You usually only get one in the UK if you have mysterious weight gain, nausea, fatigue etc or if you are about to have some new contraceptive.

moljam · 22/12/2007 15:54

no tests at my gp.just said id had positive at home and they said congratulations.or not in case of ds2!

Carolbrad · 22/12/2007 19:12

Yay Im not alone

Thats all a relief then. feeling a bit like I dont really believe it tho coz it happened so quickly.

I remember feeling a bit of a fraud until I had my first scan and saw that I was indeed carrying a little one
