did you feel better quite quickly or take some time?

Completely better. As soon as the placenta was out, all of the nausea and vomiting stopped.

I was so poorly all the way through both my pregnancies but it stopped almost immediately after each birth. I had foods and smells that I couldn’t stomach at all when pregnant, but went back to normal pretty much straight away. The only thing that lingered was the smell of lilies and a certain hand wash. Those both smelled bad to me for quite a while but nothing at all like when I was actually pregnant. I never drank tea when pregnant but was happily sipping a cup with some toast an hour after each birth.

Hope it goes away quickly for you too, OP. Pregnancy sickness is just awful.

Crystaldoves · 02/01/2022 13:34

I vomited on the operating table and a day after the c section then I was fine and enjoying my food again.
Mind you I think the being sick on the operating table and after was due to medication and thay I would've been fine as soon as the baby was out

thingymaboob · 02/01/2022 13:37

I vomited all through labour then felt nauseous during the "let down" of breastfeeding

Garman · 02/01/2022 13:38

I didn't have HG but had nausea the whole way through. For me it eases immediately after birth but some food aversions take a few days to go away.

CaMePlaitPas · 02/01/2022 13:38

Absolutely exhausted but not nauseous anymore. It was wonderful having my body back.

wonderstuff · 02/01/2022 13:39

I felt immediately better, I was more delighted to not be pregnant than to have the baby really, it was such a relief.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 02/01/2022 13:40

Better immediately.
Hope you are ok, hg is a bloody nightmare.

fivepies · 02/01/2022 13:44

I felt better straight away and still have very fond memories of the Chinese take away I ate with delight when I got back from the hospital 😁. Some food aversions remained for a while. One remains still, ten years later. But I'm just glad to have survived the HG, it is so hard.

FictionalCharacter · 02/01/2022 13:59

Relieved! Felt better very quickly.

Theyweretheworstoftimes · 02/01/2022 14:01

Loads better within a couple of hours. I only realised when the midwife gave me a cup of tea and I could drink it without vomiting.

It took me a while to realise the HG had stopped as the birth was so traumatic and I was in shock!

TheFive · 02/01/2022 14:01

Immediately better. I had from week 7 of my second pregnancy all the way through, with a nice dose of obstetric cholestasis (itchy!) in my third trimester. The nausea/vomiting and itching disappeared as soon as my DD was born, although it took a week or two for my appetite to return.

TheFive · 02/01/2022 14:02

I had HG

Curiousmouse · 02/01/2022 14:08

Vomited during labour then fine after that.

Franca123 · 02/01/2022 14:23

I felt wonderful straight away. But I did still need gaviscon for a bit after and some food / smell aversions remained. But generally I felt fantastic. I was like, get this catheter out of me now, I'm going for a walk. Wonderful!

suzieruns · 02/01/2022 14:33

I felt amazing straight after the placenta was out. I phoned my friend about an hour afterwards and she said "oh you just sound like you again!"

stealthbanana · 02/01/2022 14:36

Like the others, better immediately post birth (and I vomited the whole way through labour). It was such a relief even though the birth was a horror show - an unexpected upside of HG!

Flutterby8 · 02/01/2022 15:39

I had HG and was medication all the way through pregnancy. The nausea nd vomiting was constant but meds helped.
I was induced early due to pre-eclamlsia.
Vomited when the contractions started but as soon as baby was born i felt fine (minus the haemorrhage and blood pressure crash and transfusion).
Ive not had any nausea or vomiting since!

Wisemensay · 02/01/2022 18:13

I had HG all the way through but felt immediately better after giving birth and wasn't nauseous or sick at all after she was born.

Franca123 · 02/01/2022 19:16

This was me too. Feeling not pregnant was better than the babies. I didn't get baby blues but instead just felt elated. I had the smallest cry on day 2 for like 10 seconds. I just felt amazing. Ever since, I don't mind too much being ill as nothing will ever / can ever be as bad as pregnancy. Had shingles recently. Fine. It's also made me a much more sympathetic person to people who are ill. Now I know how bad a person can feel.
