Hello

First time on here and I’m really keen for some help/advice please.

For the past 10 months I’ve been trying to get my GP to take by possible early menopause symptoms seriously. I’m 42 conceived our only child 3 years ago through IVF and my family have a history of early menopause.

This is devastating for us as we always wanted more children.

Anyway we also decided to keep trying to conceive naturally, miracles can happen!

Over the past week I felt that my typical pre period symptoms were different I know it’s crazy but I just feel pregnant. Given it was NYE and Everyone was going to be drinkng I thought I’ll just do a pregnancy test to be certain it’s safe to drink. To my shock it was positive. So were the next 3 over the next 24 hours.

However I have since read that in perimemopuase HCG can spike giving false positives. I had no idea.

Does anyone have experience of this either way please? I’m so desperate to be pregnant but feel this could be a cruel side effect. My minds in bits as both have similar symptoms.

Period due in two days.

I got told I couldn’t have children as in early peri menapause. Had tried ivf that failed and amh was undetectable. Accepted life without children and got the most amazing surprise of what I thought was a horrendous hangover I was pregnant. I didn’t believe test, rang EPAU asked them to do bloods and confirm due to my history - they were great, but before the blood confirmation the doctor said a positive test means your pregnant .. so sounds to me like you are xxx

I'm pretty sure that it's FSH that is raised during peri menopause, not HCG...congratulations! 🥳

I think if you get a positive pregnancy test you are pregnant. HCG is only produced in pregnancy I think. polkadotpixie is right, it's FSH that goes up during perimenopause.

Thanks so much for your encouraging comments. I’m crossing everything, it’s just I read

“ women who are going through menopause or have already gone through this hormonal change can have detectable levels of hCG in their urine and blood. Even though women at this stage can't get pregnant, they can get a false-positive pregnancy test result.1 Oct 2020”

Shock

@Zoe42x I read the same thing which is why I didn’t believe I was. Ring your local EPAU and explain the situation and they may hopefully do your bloods. When I saw the doctor he said he hasn’t heard of menapause causing positive pregnancy tests - he was a junior but he seemed quite confident. Get your bloods done and go from there .. fingers crossed for you xxx

Thanks @Furmummy. I just need to be patient - not my greatest strength
