Newly pregnant after ivf and a late miscarriage and wondering if anyone else in the same situation who wants to chat?

Hi OP, I had three miscarriages (after falling pregnant naturally) before having IVF which resulted in my DD. I remember how stressful it was but my best advice is to take each day a time and that it gets easier once you can feel them move.

Easymeasy · 31/12/2021 10:48

Hi @opinion4321 thank you for replying. 3 miscarriages and ivf sounds very tough x
I am finding it stressful and like you say just taking 1 step at a time.

Yes I've had IVF and this is my third round after a missed miscarriage in December last year and a chemical pregnancy in May of this year. I have been struggling to be honest, panicking at every pain and twinge. I had my 7 week scan yesterday and the relief was immense, my partner and I broke down in tears. I did have a scan last year but there were things that, looking back, should have been picked up on. This scan looks so much for promising so I'm very caitiously optimistic. I don't think it ever goes away though, the feeling that it's all going to go wrong.

TeddyTonksGirlfriend · 31/12/2021 11:03

Yes, me! OTD today at 15dp5dt though I've been testing positive since 5dp. Tenth transfer. 2 previous live births, a vanishing twin, a number of BFNs and 4 miscarriages. I am trying not to get too invested but it's so hard, I just think it's impossible!

What stage are you at? When is viability scan?

Congratulations on your pregnancy and the positive scan. Such a relief! I am glad youre feeling more optimistic. How did you manage those few weeks between a positive test and the scan?

I’m 7 weeks pregnant on my 4th IVF transfer, having had MMCs with the first 3, all identified at the scans. The scan for this one is on Thursday and I’m bricking it!

Easymeasy · 31/12/2021 11:22

@sunbird24 good luck! How are you managing the anxiety?

OP posts:
Cakecakecheese · 31/12/2021 11:47

@Easymeasy Well it helped that a chunk of it was during Christmas so I had that as a distraction but mostly I spent the entire time convinced everything was going horribly wrong so that was fun Blush

@Sunbird24 best of luck for Thursday

Sunbird24 · 31/12/2021 12:09

@Cakecakecheese I think from another thread you’re also 7+5 today? Congratulations on your positive scan, hope you’re celebrating gently tonight! No idea why my clinic doesn’t scan until 8 weeks.

@Easymeasy I’m not really! Mostly I’m trying to pretend it’s not happening, and like Cake said Christmas was a good distraction, so that kind of helped. I go back to work on Tuesday, then it’s only a couple more days.
The last time there was still one little heartbeat at the 8 week scan, the twin had given up a few weeks before, but the one still going was nearly 2 weeks behind on growth so not good. I do seem to get them a little further each time, but the fallout is also worse. Not even engaged with the midwife yet this time! I’m old though, was 42 at EC, so that’s likely to make this more difficult for me than anyone younger.

Hi, me too. We had 2 losses (1 first trimester, 1 second) before conceiving through IVF. I'm still waiting for the anxiety to go away - I still think about "if" rather than "when" and buying pregnancy-related things is kind of panic-inducing.

Cakecakecheese · 31/12/2021 12:40

@Sunbird24 That's right I'm 7+5. Argh waiting til 8 weeks can't be fun, but maybe they wait so they can get a clearer picture, not good for the people desperate to fond out what's happening though!

I'm 41 do it is really hard, time is against us really.

@Scirocco yeah the 'if' thing is very much there. I had the covid booster and had to admit to being pregnant, the nurse was trying to be nice and was probably baffled as to why I wasn't happy and excited but I didn't particularly want to go in to my whole history with her!

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 31/12/2021 12:43

It's hard with any pregnancy but the stakes feel higher after miscarriage and IVF. You have already put an emotional and monetary investment in.I suppose you could look at CBT as a way of managing anxiety?

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 31/12/2021 12:44

Your midwife might also give you more support of you've told her your worries? x

Hello! 3 miscarriages and one successful round of IVF. Currently 24 weeks pregnant - baby has just become 'viable' which is a huge milestone!! You really do just have to take it one small milestone at a time.

The time to the 6 week scan seemed to take years and now the time is flying by. I'm still nervous, I don't think it ever goes away really after losses and IVF. I didn't really get the 'excitement' that everybody wanted and expected because it's so hard to believe it's really happening after so long trying (I'm now 39) finally feeling a little excited now and started buying the essentials for baby for I've got a mental block on buying clothes, irrational fear I'll jinx something!!

Hey @teddytonksGirlfriend you have been through a lot! Congratulations on your positive test. I had my blood test yesterday and I am 14dp5dt today so we are at similar time scales. My previous ivf I had a scan at 7 weeks but they said yesterday I'd get a letter for between 8-11 weeks! Hope that was wrong.

I agree it's impossible sometimes. I am not even telling myself I'm actually going to have a baby because I'm trying to prepare myself. My naivety is gone.

I'm glad you had Christmas as a distraction. I've been off from work for almost ten days which isnt helpful.

Hello! Miracles do happen, we need to believe in that :)
We lost our first baby 2.5 years ago, she was very ill, the pregnancy was terminated. This was followed by 5 miscarriages over 15 months. With my age (bad quality eggs) and a blood clotting disease diagnosed, we started ivf 1 year ago only a few weeks after the 6th loss! 2 cycles of ivf, PGS testing and we ended up with 2 normal embryos. One was transferred, and it split into 2^^ I am currently 34 weeks pregnant with my 2 boys, c section scheduled in two weeks:)
You have clearly all been through a lot too, and I understand that the weeks before the 12 week scan can be so long!!!!! It is hard but we are strong :)
Take care xx
S.

How is everyone doing today? I am up and down really, just on edge and hoping things don't go wrong. My viability scan is not til the 20th when I'll be 7+5, which seems quite late, and such a long time to wait 🙈

Trying to keep busy but need to get back to work really, I expect the days will fly by then.
