12 week scan - nurse mentions a gender but not sure if it meant anything!

Hey all! So, i had my 12 week baby scan yesterday and the nurse who did the scan was lovely. She started the scan by immediately saying "There she is! She's got a good heart beat!" Which i am absolutely over the moon with any gender however I thought it was maybe too early to get an accurate reading of the gender and it just came by surprise! II thought they'd refer to baby as 'they' or 'baby'. When I asked her, she quickly said I'd have to book private to know the gender hehe. Has anyone else's nurse referred to their baby as a gender by default? Wondering if it's common or if it's an accidental slip up! I've attached scan pictures, I'm so excited for baby! Grin Hope you're all having a lovely day!

Quite common for them to use a sex. It just makes it seem less impersonal then it or they, I think. I've had them go between both at the same appointment before. At 12 weeks it is extremely difficult to determine sex and almost impossible to do so with certainty; private scans only offer from 16+.

This is what I thought too! Think I'll wait for the 20 week scan to find out gender, I'm not too much in a rush although very excited! Thank you for replying Grin

They always use 'she' instead of 'it' for example i have noticed x until they know the true gender so good luck waiting for 20 weeks scan 🤣

I’m expecting a girl but in my early appointments she was referred to as ‘he’ a number of times I think it’s just to avoid using ‘it’ or scaring you by thinking you are having twins/multiples by using ‘they’

Means close to nothing.
It transpired at my 20 week scan my "lovely little fellow" had a vagina and was very much my little lady Grin
