I'm fed up! Recurrent thrush for 3rd time!

Sorry for the subject at 9:30am. But I am fed up! I've had thrush twice in this pregnancy. Did the 500mg pessary, didn't work so my doctor prescribed the 3 day course of pessaries. Worked for all of a week, I then noticed the discharge again, went to the doctors did a swab. Just got the text to say thrush again and more pessaries. I've not had any discomfort or itching, it's just the discharge and it's driving me mad!

Has anyone had this and just had to keep just having the pessaries or did the doctors do something else?

I had this in my second pregnancy with my son. It seemed to be a second trimester thing.
How far along are you?

I just ordered the cream and pessaries every other week from Amazon until that delightful symptom moved on to something else.

rainbowbaby5 · 30/12/2021 09:32

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken I first got told I had it at 17 weeks. I'll be 23 weeks tomorrow, so the second trimester thing makes sense😫

It's honestly a nightmare. But thankful I don't have the discomfort of it. But I just want to wear underwear without a panty liner😂

Make sure they've checked your urine (and possibly blood sugar too) for diabetes as recurrent thrush can be a sign.
Try and really focus on a healthier diet, hope it clears for you soon!

Do you have a partner? If so are they being treated for it to? A friend of mine had recurrent thrush and it turned out she kept getting it back from her partner. Once they were both treated it stopped.

Tigerlily08 · 30/12/2021 10:14

Completely unrelated to pregnancy but I echo what @SouthwestSis says - I had recurring thrush a few years ago and doctors were stumped. Turned out I was undiagnosed Type 1 Diabetic - the Dr's were useless, I got so fed up with it I looked on Google and saw it wad a possibility so self-referred for a blood test. Could gestational diabetes be a possibility?

You have my sympathies, it's horrendous!! Xx

I didn’t know about the link with diabetes.
I’ve just had my third baby and was diagnosed with GD so it would make sense that I had it in my second too.

rainbowbaby5 · 30/12/2021 12:35

Oh my wow ladies, I never thought that at all. I was on progesterone pessaries for the first 16 weeks and they believe that triggered it as I got it early pregnancy and it cleared until it was detected again at 17 weeks. But shall I just get in touch with my doctors and ask for my wee to be checked? I have a midwife appointment on January 24th, but that's a long time to wait

@pennysays I have a partner yes, sex hasn't been the burning fire since I've been pregnant😂 but we have had sex recently. I've asked him and he said he doesn't feel any different if noticed any different. Is it worth just treating incase. Oh bloody hell🙈😂

I switched to baby soap which largely solved it. And stopped wearing tights.

Fleur405 · 30/12/2021 12:59

I’ve never had thrush before this pregnancy….just off to collect my 7th course of treatment…!

I’m very much over it now and so I spoke to my obstetrician about it yesterday. There is another treatment (a course of tablets) but it’s not recommended in pregnancy so she said just to keep using the pessaries/ cream as required. I had GD last time (no thrush) and definitely don’t have it this time so it definitely can be linked but don’t think it necessarily is. It’s been less bad since I started taking a probiotic but don’t know for sure if that’s what’s made the difference.

pennysays · 30/12/2021 17:05

My friends partner had no idea he had thrush. So yes treat both of yourselves at the same time.

SouthwestSis · 30/12/2021 17:09

You should be having your urine checked at midwife appointments for sugar so that should flag if there is evidence of diabetes

Franca123 · 30/12/2021 17:21

I used aveeno. Vastly expensive but you only use a tiny amount down there. I used normal soap on the rest of my body. It all settled back to normal after pregnancy.

Somerandomgirl · 30/12/2021 17:39

30 weeks and 4th time now this pregnancy...fed up with it too.... didnt have in first pg.....

ferrychristmas · 30/12/2021 18:01

I had it for most of one of my pregnancies- not what you want to hear but the only thing that cured it was giving birth. ( see also heartburn/acid reflux).
It can be hormonal. Now back with a vengeance in peri menopause Sad

Gelpennen · 31/12/2021 09:58

I had this too - later on found out I had GD so definitely ask your midwife to check

rainbowbaby5 · 31/12/2021 10:20

Thank you ladies! Glad to know I'm not alone in this struggle. Pregnancy has been a dream apart from this every few weeks😐

I have my midwife appointment in 3 weeks so I'll ask about the gestational diabetes when there. And hope it's not that🙁
