I have just been to see my diabetic consultant at the hospital today. My blood Sugars have been absolutely fine apart from 2/4 high readings on Christmas day which they weren't concerned about at all.

Before seeing my consultant the nurse took my blood pressure and tested my urine. Blood pressure perfect but she said I had 3+ ketones in my urine. She asked if I had eaten and drank enough today and I said yes which I have ate and drank my normal amount I usually do? And nothing else was said about it.

I was sent on my way after the consultant checked my book for my blood Sugars the past few weeks... Now I'm sitting here panicking because my ketones surely shouldn't be that high? Should they have not looked into it a bit more at all? I'm not sure if ive been let down here or if I should stop being paranoid?!

Just to mention I have gestational diabetes not type 1 or 2 and I'm diet controlled x

3+ ketones is quite high. When I had hyperemesis I was going into hospital for fluids with 4++ of ketones and wasn't allowed home until they were down to 1+.

Can you call your midwife?

@Blxo94 do you have a number for your diabetes midwife? I had ketones in my urine when I was diet controlled, and actually got put on insulin so I can eat more carbs. I was eating some carbs in every meal, but the GD team thought I wasn't eating enough of them. I haven't had ketones in my urine since then, and it's been nice to have a bit more variety in my diet

Oh sorry that's weird, I see it was the diabetes consultant you saw! I'd give them a call tomorrow and ask

Hi guys,

I called my midwife to get some sort of extra reassurance on it. And was told that if hospital weren't concerned then it should be OK? But it's not is it?! My ketones shouldn't be at that level? I was told to eat more... How am I meant to do that when I'm diet controlled? I can't up my carb intake or my sugars go sky high! I'm at a loss! I think I will see what my ketones are like with midwife on the 5th January and if they are still high I'm going to get back in touch with the diabetic team because even though my Sugars are great. Ketones aren't x
