Different symptoms with Boy and Girl?

I'm currently 12 weeks and not finding out the sex until 16 weeks but I've been having the below symptoms:

  • craving salty foods
  • craving citrus
  • very little morning sickness
  • stomach starting to protrude already at 12 weeks at the bottom
  • couple of mood swings but not a lot
  • no breast change at all

I know it is a very tongue in cheek topic as every pregnancy is different! What were everyone's symptoms for each sex?

I had all the typical 'boy' symptoms; no sickness, good skin, carrying low etc.
Went into 20 week scan absolutely CONVINCED I was having bit and lo and behold it's a baby girl!

LadyExpecting93 · 29/12/2021 15:38

@twomumsonebump wow, I'm having the same symptoms more or less- just goes to show everyone is different!

With my girl i had very bad acid reflux. With my boy I had horrific sickness. Otherwise, similar pregnancies.

ThisOneNow · 29/12/2021 15:48

I had really different symptoms with DD and DS1. Pregnancy 3 had all the same symptoms as with DD so I assumed it was another girl but turned out to be DS2. So I have a lot a skepticism about what you can read into pregnancy symptoms!

CaMePlaitPas · 29/12/2021 15:59

HG with my first girl, absolutely no symptoms for my second. Carrying baby number 3 at the moment (about 6 weeks) and there are days when I don't feel pregnant but days (like today) when anything makes me wretch and get sick, I feel weak and tired. So excited to find out whethewhit's a girl or a boy. Gut is saying girl though!

CaMePlaitPas · 29/12/2021 15:59

Whether it's*

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 29/12/2021 16:02

Completely different symptoms, cravings and aversions in my two pregnancies.

Both girls!

(The old wives tale about heartburn meaning a baby with lots of hair was true for me though... none with DD1, completely bald. Terrible with DD2, born with a full head of black hair!)

CountryGirl189 · 29/12/2021 16:13

I have wondered this, but don’t know if I’m trying to make myself feel better about my lack of symptoms!

Weeks 5-6, I felt really under the weather and somewhat nauseous with a lack of appetite.

This quickly disappeared at 6 weeks after a scan where we saw the heartbeat.

Now coming up to 8 weeks on Friday and my boobs are barely sore anymore and only symptom I have is itching all over! It’s driving me mad!

If we hadn’t seen a heartbeat, I’d be freaking out even more, but I can’t shift the funny feeling in my tummy that something is off/wrong 🤔

Blxo94 · 29/12/2021 16:32

With my boy I had very little sickness, I had bad skin. I got alot of thrush and I mean... Most of my pregnancy I had it! (sorry) but apart from that his pregnancy was a delight.

I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant with what they say is a baby girl and my symptoms have been. Awful sickness and nausea, bad skin, the most painful boobs/nipples ever, extreme fatigue, migraines, and I have gestational diabetes this time around. So this pregnancy absolutely sucks compared to my sons!

Only bonus is I have gone 31 weeks with no thrush!!!! Which I hope I haven't jinxed now!

RussianSpy101 · 29/12/2021 16:34

3DC-
No morning sickness
Craved savoury food
Didn’t show until 24 weeks onwards
Very small neat bump
I have 1 DD and 2 DS.

triflinpud · 29/12/2021 16:44

I had two boys, similar symptoms, rubbish morning sickness in first tri and carried low. Very much believed that all of this is just physical, like carrying low is about the uterus not the sex, symptoms just are what they are etc.

Had two girls. Carried much higher with both Confused (how?! Why?!) and had HG with both so was sick throughout. Even my consultant said the difference in sickness was likely to be a sex difference due to hormones, this was long before the 20 week scan with DC3 which confirmed a girl.

I don’t necessarily think it’s a dead cert, but now have a more open mind to possible trends!

@Blxo94 wow what symptoms! I've had exactly the same symptoms as you when you had your boy. Perhaps I'm painting the nursery blue- we'll see Smile

Everything you have described for girl I've not had. Good luck xx

Oh poor you with the morning sickness @triflinpud

I've been very lucky and have only been sick once and a couple of mornings I've felt nausea but apart from that been quite lucky. But when I spoke to my mum who had x2 DD she had no sickness at all in either pregnancies!

2 DSs and 2 totally different pregnancies!

FrostedCupcakes · 29/12/2021 17:14

I had the following:

  • Craving Salty Foods
  • No morning sickness, just severe nausea.
  • Carrying low
  • Breast changes
  • Couple of rare mood swings

Went to my 20 week scan last week and it's a girl! :)

LadyExpecting93 · 29/12/2021 17:19

@FrostedCupcakes congratulations on your little girl!

I've had similar symptoms except I've had no breast changes and no mood swings, been pretty mellow (luckily for DP!)

My first was a boy, skin was perfect ( I've never suffered with spots or acne) no morning sickness, craving savoury foods, hair was amazing.

Currently 25 weeks pregnant

Complete opposite

Really awful skin, hairs so dry, craving sweets 😩 really bad morning sickness and nausea and bad headaches, generally thought I was having a girl, two scans later he's defiantly a boy. Each pregnancy is different but I
Never believed it haha, congratulations

Passanotherjaffacake · 29/12/2021 22:36

Second pregnancy and very similar symptoms to yours. Just found out this one will be a boy.

First pregnancy was much worse, felt constantly like I had the flu, was constantly nauseous until 36 weeks and could only live on beige food and sugar - could not manage anything healthy! That one was a girl!

So the old wives tales rang true for me! Lots of people thought it was a boy this time as I wanted salty food and didn’t really feel too bad. I was still surprised though!

Good luck op!

ExpectingLady93 · 29/12/2021 22:39

@Passanotherjaffacake sorry to hear you had such a tough time. It really is the best thing in the word to be able to get pregnant but the nausea I wouldn't wish on my worse enemy. I've hardly had the nausea just extreme tiredness I forgot to add to my original post!

But yes been very lucky thank you. I have my 12 week scan tomorrow and going to post the photo on here to see if anyone can help me with the 'nub' theory Grin

zeromango · 30/12/2021 13:44

I had very similar symptoms for both and have one of each! Only slight difference was I was more nauseous in this pregnancy with DS

mowglika · 30/12/2021 15:10

2 ds pregnancies, loved savoury foods, bump was pointy and not very wide. Some mild nausea in the first trimester. Amazing skin and hair.

1 dd pregnancy, diet is basically chocolate and marshmallows (which make me feel sick at the thought as I don’t have a sweet tooth usually), bad nausea and food aversions throughout, bump is very wide and shallow. Bad skin (acne for the first time) and I look like shit this pregnancy.

The pregnancy myths have largely held true for me so far.

QueenLagertha · 30/12/2021 15:31

DS1 unrelenting nausea first trimester, sinus infections, weight loss, very tired. Bump was just a little bump. No weight anywhere else.

This time, zero sickness, no tiredness, few days of sinus problems but no infection, gaining weight all over at an alarming rate (I am approx 23 weeks) and bump is wide also. Scan at 18 weeks, sonographer says she thinks she saw something between babys legs so looks like another boy! I was convinced I was having a girl.

Honestly I don't think there is much correlation, if any between sex of baby and pregnancy symptoms.

Re the heartburn comments. Dr mammajones (an obsectrian who makes YouTube videos did an old wives tale video. All the boy/girl ones have not scientific back up. However, there was a paper done on heartburn for children with the most hair. They got mother's to rate their level of heartburn then an independent group to rate how lusious locks their baby photos had and there was a correlation. Also between those with no heartburn and bald babies.
