Fetal seizures

Has anyone experienced fetal seizures? I am only 8 weeks and felt what felt like seizures this morning. I know that sounds ridiculous and I’m hoping it’s WAY too early to feel them if it was.

It’s taken me back to the pregnancy with dd1. I had totally forgotten this but the same thing definitely happened then too. According to google can happen but is v rare and usually linked to severe chromosome abnormalities. Dd1 did have a very severe, rare disorder and only lived a year. I will also try and get in touch with her neurologist to ask if its likely or if I’m putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5.

Sorry for your previous loss, that sounds incredibly hard.

I don't think Google is your friend here, but I would put trust in your maternal instincts and seek out some medical advice.

There are all sorts of weird and wonderful feelings when baby moves around though, so hopefully nothing to be concerned about.

Have you been offered some genetic counciling or further tests?

Hi, so sorry for the loss of your daughter.

I don't have experience of foetal seizures but my baby was stillborn at full term last year. I am currently pregnant again and completely pedantic when it comes to movement. I was very aware of it in the previous pregnancy but because the movement stopped so suddenly (there was no cause found for his death), when I don't feel this baby move for even short periods of time; during times I am struggling to be rational I will be convinced it has died.

When you've been through something as traumatic as you have with your daughter, it is so understandable that you would have these concerns. I am grateful to receive amazing care from the hospital and hope this is something you will have too so they can do necessary investigations and support you. All the very best.

In early pregnancy I felt like my uterus was vibrating. I think it is the muscles twitching & reacting as they are being stretched as the uterus gets bigger. At eight weeks the embryo is probably not big enough for seizures to be felt.
If you are worried contact your ob/gyni. With your history you will probably be classed as an at risk pregnancy so will have no problem with a referral.

Thank you everyone. Yes we’ve had genetic counselling but her condition was so rare it’s not diagnosed, so can’t be tested for pre/ during pregnancy.

We’ve since had twins (high risk pregnancy) and had scans twice a week so I can get in touch with the FMU consultant and dd1s neurologist again. I’m hoping it was nothing but its filled me with dread.

@sunshine423 so sorry to hear about your experience. I really hope you get to bring your baby home this time.
