I’m 18 weeks and been feeling very wet down there in the last few weeks (sorry TMI) feels like I’ve weed myself but when I go to to toilet my underwear is dry. I’ve not had sticky discharge. In the last week I have leaked 3-4 times (only once a day and in the evening) but I never felt it leaking only noticed it when I went to the toilet. Is this amniotic fluid, have I started leaking urine without feeling it or is it watery discharge?

First picture straight after I noticed it and the other 2 are an hour after when it’s dry

I don’t want to call triage unnecessary that’s why I’m asking her first

Does it smell of farmyards/straw? That's what amniotic fluid smells like.

K2012 · 24/12/2021 21:55

Hi @CatherineCawood no it doesn’t.

You can smell the difference between amniotic fluid and wee.

It could just be sweat . Your body is much hotter when pregnant. X

Bellsandsnow · 24/12/2021 23:32

I would say just discharge or sweat. As others have said, you sweat loads more and also my discharge was more fluid like during pregnancy.

I've had it since I was 13 weeks pg all the way well into the third trimester. On some days it was pretty bad and I went to have it checked over. It was discharge it increases in pregnancy. I'd say wear a pad and see if gets soaked and how long it's taken if so. Also you could sit on a toilet for a bit and see if it trickles down. Obviously monitor if you don't have a gush of it at any point as well.

I'd always say trust your own instinct if you feel something isn't right, get checked. But based on the photos and what you said, I think it's likely increased discharge.

The amount of discharge a pregnant woman can create is astounding.

Twice I went to the maternity unit swearing blind my waters had gone. Twice it was discharge.

Conversely, during the birth I swore blind I'd peed myself, the nurse was very clear it was my waters... I refused to believe her, until she pointed out I had a catheter, so peeing myself was impossible.

During pregnancy, birth and immediately post-partum I felt like a water balloon, basically every part of me leaked at some point.

The bottom line is, from the photo, we can't tell what it is... But tidal discharge is not uncommon.

If you're unsure I really would get it checked out OP. At least you'll know for sure what it is x

K2012 · 25/12/2021 14:52

@MinnieJackson hi I had it checked at triage it wasn’t amniotic fluid. They said keep an eye on it and basically what you said in here that it’s normal to have more watery discharge in pregnancy and you’ll get more in the next few months and if it happens again put a pad on, lie down for 30-60 minutes then get up and see if it starts leaking. They said if it’s amniotic fluid it will leak and go down your legs

Maybe I just sweat a bit more now 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pregnancy discharge is crazy, it’s probably that.

K2012 · 25/12/2021 15:10

I thought I had started leaking urine without knowing 😂 then suddenly all this watery discharge, feels like I’ve weed myself all the time but then when you go toilet you’re dry so it must be that I’m sweating more and the watery discharge 🤷🏻‍♀️😅

Ahh so glad you got checked @K2012 I was leaking fluid from about 17 weeks and my baby was unfortunately born at 24 weeks. I only found out from a private scan to find the baby's sex, then gushes would get bigger and bigger. Really glad it's all ok x

K2012 · 26/12/2021 09:26

@MinnieJackson sorry to hear about your baby ☹️ Hope you don’t mind me asking but how much fluid did you leak, how much was there (was it covering a pad) and how often?

I don't mind. The first time it happened I was getting out of the bath, so thought i must have some bath water up there Blush When I went for the scan we didn't think anything would be wrong, two previous healthy pregnancies. The sonographer asked if I'd had my 12 week scan and I just knew something was wrong. I had the 12 week scan and all was fine. My fluid that day was about 3, then with more leaks and scans going into the 2's then 1's. My baby was poorly then as he wasn't swallowing or peeing and had kidney problems. I definitely felt damp at first and thought it was discharge, but the gushes would get bigger and cover the inside of my knickers. Best of luck for the rest of your pregnancy Smile
