Constipation and Suppositories in 2nd trimester?

It’s an embarrassing topic but I’m struggling to find answers on Google.

Are suppositories okay to take in the second trimester?
I’ve been drinking a glass of fybogel every day, I’ve taken the maximum dose of lactulose for a week. I’ve eaten shreddies and pears every day and been drinking more than 2L of water.
I’ve had 3 big glasses of water since 5am. I feel like a water balloon.
I’m barely going twice a week at the moment and even then it’s a few small pellets (sorry for TMI!)

I’ve never tried a glycerin (?) suppository before but I’ve seen a few people mention them on MN. The only thing is I can’t tell if they’re safe to use in pregnancy.

Please help!

As a side note, my midwife seems to be on holiday and the GP is rammed so close to Christmas.
I’m thinking my only hope is the pharmacy.

Yes, my midwife told me glycerin suppositories were totally fine. What a relief they were. Get yourself off to the chemist quick sharp! They take around half an hour to work - you will then toddle off to the loo and come out like a new woman!! Merry Christmas!

Haha! What an excellent Christmas present! (At this point it really would be!)

@Honeymint oh girl, I feel your pain! Fwiw, I didn’t find Fybogel or lactulose to do anything except make me gag. Senosoft sachets got me going again quickly (once at night and once in the morning) and they’re pregnancy safe according to the box. I found the suppositories are good for immediate relief but then my system would struggle to regulate for a few days after that - this has been the bane of my adult life! Good luck xx

Glycerin ones are safe as they just bring water i the ahem.
Try baby prune pouches/purees. Fruit & fibre cereal too. I'm always constipated when it gets heavy on stomach eat those things as nothing else works. Next day relief

Just an update for anyone reading this thread in future, I went and picked some up from the pharmacy last minute. Interestingly they said they weren’t allowed to sell them for use by a pregnant person so would sell them to me ‘for my husband’.

That worried me a little so I rang triage who told me to use them and not worry about it.
I did use one in the end and tbh it probably saved Christmas for me. What a relief, haha 😂
