Salicylic acid

So basically I am around 9 and a half weeks pregnant and a thought occurred to me yesterday that I should check my makeup, skincare etc. My foundation has Salicylic acid listed as one of its ingredients - not sure % or how much? I have been using it everyday as it was my normal foundation even before I was pregnant. Should I be worried about this causing any harm to my baby as google has said to avoid avoid avoid! Any advice I’d really appreciate thank you x

"Yes, people can safely apply products containing salicylic acid once or twice a day during pregnancy. Cleansers and toners commonly include this ingredient.
However, doctors recommended using products containing salicylic acid no stronger than 2 percent."

Your foundation won't have anywhere close to 2% so don't worry :) I used a 2% toner when I was younger and struggled with acne, and that stuff STINGS!

Thank you - google really does worry me! I’m not sure on the % of the foundation - will it be less than 2% then? X

Oh most certainly! As I said, the 2% toner I used when younger was noticeably stingy and made my skin feel tight. Not even sure you could get 2% in a foundation, most formulations with that strength are toners and serums.

@Hm56900 absolutely. A 2% Salicylic Acid product is about as strong as you are allowed for home use exfoliation using it as an ingredient. It will be a minuscule percentage in a foundation.

Aw thanks so much! Would you say I need to stop using the foundation everyday and change to something else ? X

Well no, the advice there says you can use it once or twice a day?

If you’re this worried though it might be worth it for peace of mind but honestly no medical reason to do it.

Congratulations btw

Thanks so much! I think I am overthinking everything and it’s driving me mad lol!

I thought the once or twice a day means for short periods I was scared because obviously I have my foundation on all day? I don’t believe it has high amounts in as surely the product would have to list the % it’s about number 20 on the ingredients list.

I can't see why you would need to @Hm56900 but if it gives you peace of mind then that's a totally different thing. There is literally no chance it is more than 2% but if it's worrying you then just see it as an opportunity to try some new products!

If you apply a toner though it sits on your skin all day too, you don’t waah it back off (I can see what you are thinking about cleansers).

Honestly it is fine but whatever makes you feel safer is ok to do, just try not to worry about everything (easier said than done).

If you don’t mind me asking, what foundation is it? Sounds like it could be good for my skin.
