55th to 16th centile for weight in 3 weeks

I had a growth scan due to 2 episodes of reduced movement. All was fine and baby was on 55th centile. I had another scan last week (less than 3 weeks later) and he has dropped to the 16th centile. I'm just wondering if anyone has experiened this and if it resulted in early delivery or if their babies caught up?

How many weeks are you? I presume they've booked you in for another growth scan in a fortnight or so?

Mine went from 50th to 22nd in 2 weeks, but still within normal realms so that's fine. Fetal Medicine dr (who we are with anyway for other reasons) didn't seem remotely worried - said baby had prob just shifted position! Baby has stayed around 22nd since. These growth scans can be very inaccurate too.

If they get under the 3rd centile I think that's when they start to keep a closer eye on things, or if baby continues to drop off centiles rapidly, but hopefully they'll have booked you in for another growth scan to keep an eye on things? If so, try not to worry - it's nothing to worry about yet, just a pattern they'll have noted. If your baby's growth trajectory continues to drop they'll take measures accordingly. Often though, babies will suddenly pick up again anyway.

Good luck! X

Thank you for replying. I'm 33 weeks and I have got another scan booked for 3 weeks time.

That is really reassuring to hear. I've just been worrying how much he could drop in another few weeks if it continues on the same trajectory. I'm hoping when I go back things have remained the same or he had started to grow again. It is such a worry having to wait for so long to find out.

My DD went from 50th centile at 20w to 25th centile at 28w to 9th centile at 37w. The consultant told me that once below 10th centile, especially if there is no obvious reason why, they like to get them out, so induction was booked for 39w. However, my BP massively spiked and i went into spontaneous labour before then - she was born at 38w and was a tiny 5lbs 12oz. Growth scans can be notoriously inaccurate, but for us it was pretty much bang on.

Fingers crossed it was just funny positioning for you, but you might want to think about your feelings about inductions, just in case.

Hiya OP- did the do a Doppler for the placenta and cord flow?

DD dropped from 10th centile to 0.04 centile, I was therefore booked in for an induction at 37 weeks (last scan was at 36 weeks) I had a sweep couple days before and that brought her.

She’s 2 and a bit now and still 0.04 centile, she’s just small.

Hi I went for a growth scan 2 weeks ago, I was in the 50th droped to the 4th..at 30 weeks she was measuring 27 weeks.. over a pound smaller than she should be.. midwife said her stomach was very small.. but everything else was ok (blood flow and such) I've got my second scan this morning it's been a long 2 week wait. X

I had the same. Was bang on 50th at 28 weeks then had dropped to 10th 3 weeks later. I had some extra monitoring of the cord/placenta a week later and then another growth scan the following week where growth had picked up to around the 20th. I had a final growth scan recently where we are back up to 30th. I’ve been advised to deliver at 39 weeks but not sure if this is just down to my pregnancy induced hypertension or due to the growth blip as well. They did say that the one low measurement could have been an underestimate, but had fiftieth declined further I was looking at weekly monitoring and delivery at 37 weeks. I was so worried after the drop but felt much better when subsequent scans were fine. Hope the growth picks up for you too Flowers

(As @GuidingSpirit said - they decided due to my drop that she was better out than in)

@Stopcallingmemum all the best for today 🌸🌸🌸

StillFestive · 21/12/2021 07:46

Oh and the additional monitoring was because baby was right on the 10th centile line which they did was the cutoff, any higher and I’ve just kept to the original 3 weeks gap between scans.
