Hi everyone
I’m due my 2nd baby in 6 weeks and not sure what to do with feeding. I don’t want to exclusively breast feed although would be ok with the idea of expressing, although I don’t know much about this! My preference is to breastfeed for the first few days to give the baby the colostrum, and then move onto formula and a bottle after then. does anyone have any experience of this or experience of expressing the colustrum? I know some people express before the baby is born but i’m not sure how this works either.
With my first baby he was formula fed from day 1 as i was in theatre for the birth and was there a while after in recovery so it just wasn’t really an option.
I’m going to speak to the midwife at my next appointment and hopefully she can help but grateful for any experiences/advice in the meantime.
Thank you

With my second I breastfed for the first 5 days but then my milk didn't come in so had to switch to bottle. (I know I could have kept trying but I was post c-section and really struggling with a starving baby).

My son happily accepted bottles as he was so hungry all he wanted was the milk. The only problem I had was over feeding. His tummy used to small rich colostrum - it took me some time to get the balance right and he was sick sometimes. That was solved with a dummy to regulate his feeding.
