False Labour

Last Wednesday I had noticable BH for the first time and then again on Saturday. They didn't last very long, were not regular and didn't hurt much.

Then last night I started having what I thought were mild contrax. They were irregular but were a little painful and lasted all evening. I went to bed hoping that I would wake in the night or the morning with more painful and regular contrax but when I woke up, nothing.

Has anyone else had this and if so, was real labour imminent or still miles away.

I thought I was in labour with strong braxton hicks called my mid wife and she did internal and said I was not in labour, 5 days later still hadn't happened so she gave me 2 spoons of castor oil which started it for me. At that stage I was 9 days over due.

Good luck with it all.

You can have warm up ctx for days or even weeks, on and off, before the "real event". Best to ignore and just carry on with life... .when it gets to the point where they curl your toes and you really WANT a midwife's opinion, it's probably the real thing.

i had this with dd2, lots of bh over the course of a couple of weeks. thought i was starting on about 3 different occassions. dont worry its just your body preparing, when real labour starts you'll know. i would say though if your getting them regularly for a fairly long time to ring your mw to check

I had a weekend of hell last weekend due to false labour. Regular contractions (every 8ish minutes) that felt like strong, and quite painful BH with lots of lower back pain (like period pain).

Carried on for 2 days with virtually no sleep, then just tailed off. I'm still getting them every evening, with normal BHs throughout the day (probably get about 20 BHs throughout the course of the day, and about as many of those contractions (or whatever they are) in the evening / night).

I'm 38+5 today and very impatient for things to be getting a move on!

I had a few false starts with dd2. Was convinced it was another practise when I was actually in labour! DH forced me to call the MW in the end and I had dd2 about 2 hours later!

I think all the niggles / practise contractions / false labour stuff makes for a faster labour when it really gets going

try to focus on that and not get too upset it if's very stop start
